SRT Phone: The Sachin Tendulkar Android Smartphone To Release on 3rd May

IoT startup Smartron holds the unique distinction of being a startup with Sachin Tendulkar as one of their investors. While Indian cricketing legend and global sporting icon Sachin Tendulkar is all set to make mark felt across Bollywood, there will soon be a Sachin-branded SRT Phone – an Android smartphone endorsed by Sachin into the markets. This will be produced and sold by Smartron.

This phone is expected to be manufactured in one of the Foxconn facilities. The phone would be designed keeping in mind the Indian consumers, as well as other competing smartphones. Reports indicate that the SRT phone would be priced in at less than INR 15,000 – a budget that Indian smartphone buyers have no problem with.

While little detail is known about the specifications of the device, we now know that the SRT phone would be announced on the 3rd of May. Each SRT phone will feature an autograph from Sachin Tendulkar on the back. The announcement regarding the arrival of this smartphone was made by Smartron on Twitter. It is indeed an interesting concept and we are really excited to see the specifications the phone will come out with.

It is expected that the SRT phone would come with features that would compete against the recently released Moto G5 and G5 Plus. The phone is expected to feature 2 to 3 GB of RAM, and is expected to do well in the country where Sachin Tendulkar is often referred to as 'God of Cricket'.

Smartron is giving the SRT phone a key importance, as the company recently hired Motorola India MD Amit Boni as their VP of Sales and Marketing. He has been a key figure in the revival and success of Motorola in India over the years, and him joining the team would give Smartron an undisputed edge over the competition.

iPhone 8 release date LEAK - This might be our best look yet at the next Apple smartphone

Sun, January 1, 2017 iPhone 8 is shaping up to be one of the most impressive Apple smartphones to date, with glass panels on the front and rear of the device, a curved borderless OLED display and no Home Button Apple iPhone 8 will debut a brand-new all-glass look, with a curved OLED display and no physical Home Button

Apple iPhone 8 will debut a brand-new all-glass look, with a curved OLED display and no physical Home Button

The hotly-anticipated iPhone 8 appears to have been unmasked – months before its September release date.

Tipster Benjamin Geskin shared photographs of an alleged iPhone 8 dummy, leaked from Apple smartphone supplier Foxconn.

Provided this latest leak is accurate, the Apple iPhone 8 mock-up confirms a number of long rumoured features.

It looks as if Apple will ditch the physical Home Button from the front of the phone, enabling the display to bleed to the very edge of the chassis.

This follows similar trends from the likes of Samsung and LG.

Elsewhere, the dual camera set-up debuted with the iPhone 7 Plus looks set to make a return, albeit rotated 90-degrees so that it is stacked vertically.

Some sources believe this will enable advanced augmented reality (AR) features with the camera.

The volume rockers and mute switch are on the left hand-side of the alleged iPhone 8, while a sleep/wake is on the right.

This is identical to current generation iPhone models, however, one noticeable difference is that Apple appears to have elongated the sleep/wake button on the new iPhone.

Leakster Benjamin Geskin also published what he believes to be the final schematic diagram for the next iPhone.

According to the technical drawing, Apple will hide dual front-facing cameras beneath the display.

The Cupertino-based company is also expected to embed the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which has traditionally been housed within the physical Home Button, underneath the glass.

The schematic diagram also reveals a new a noise-reduction microphone between the dual camera lens on the rear of the phone.

If the latest reports around the Apple iPhone 8, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the best-selling smartphone range, are to be believed – Apple is going to pull-out all the stops this September. Geskin published a list of headline features expected to ship with the iPhone 8.

The list includes – an all-new premium glass design, OLED display with True Tone, Touch ID hidden underneath the glass, wireless charging, 3D facial recognition, IP68 dust and water resistance rating, A11 system-on-a-chip, and long battery life.

It's worth stressing, that there is no way to verify whether all of these features will make the cut – or even be ready on time – for the iPhone launch date.

Previous reports suggest Apple is experimenting with 10 separate prototypes for the next iPhone.

Some of these dummy models include a rear-mounted Touch ID fingerprint sensor, others include one embedded beneath the display.

According to sources within Apple, there are still iPhone 8 prototypes that retain the physical Home Button.

Apple is expected to debut the iPhone 8 alongside the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus, which will feature only a few minor upgrades, in September.

Moto G5 vs G5 Plus: new budget smartphone king revealed

Lenovo has announced the Australian release of its latest budget smartphones – the Motorola Moto G5 and G5 Plus – which are available from Motorola's online store and retailers including Harvey Norman, the Good Guys, Officeworks and JB Hi Fi.

For four generations, the Motorola Moto G series has been the gold standard for budget smartphones – offering more value with every new release. But with the Moto G5 series, Lenovo has done something highly unusual: it's pulled back on some of the specifications.

Most noticeably, it's dropped the screen size from 5.5 inches for the both G4 and G4 Plus to 5.0in for the Moto G5 and 5.2in for the G5 Plus.

At least we're getting both models in Australia this time. The standard Moto G4 wasn't officially sold here (apart from grey-market importers). We had to make do with the Moto G4 Plus and the cheaper 5in Moto G4 Play – and, in fact, both of these previous-generation phones are still available.

In addition, the Moto G5 Plus and G4 Plus both come in two different versions: with 16GB or 32GB of storage, with a bump up in RAM as well. That makes for a fairly complex range – so, for example, you can choose between a 32GB Moto G4 Plus or a 16GB Moto G5 Plus for the same price.

Lenovo's strategy appears to have been to do what it takes to keep the prices down – and today's Moto G phones are all very competitively priced, starting from just $249 for the Moto G4 Play to $449 for the 32GB Moto G5 Plus.

The latest Motorola Moto G range at a glance   Moto G5 Plus Moto G5 Moto G4 Plus Moto G4 Play Price $399 $449 $299 $349 $399 $249 Display 5.2in, 1920 x 1080 pixels 5.0in, 1920 x 1080 pixels 5.5in, 1920 x 1080 pixels 5.0in, 1280 x 720 pixels Built-in storage 16GB 32GB 16GB 16GB 32GB 16GB RAM 3GB 4GB 2GB 2GB 3GB 2GB Processor 2.0GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 1.4GHz, octa-core Snapdragon 430 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 617 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 Cameras (rear/front) 12MP (with dual autofocus pixels) / 5MP 13MP / 5MP 16MP / 5MP 8MP / 5MP Fingerprint reader Y Y Y N Fast charging Y Y Y N NFC Y N N N Weight 155g 144.5g 155g 137g OS Android 7.0 Android 7.0 Android 6.0.1 Android 6.0.1

There's a lot to be said for that strategy in catering for users who prefer to buy their phones up-front for reduced monthly fees and greater flexibility to change mobile providers. But are the new Moto G5 phones actually good value? And how do they compare with the acclaimed previous-generation handsets – particularly the outstanding Moto G4 Plus?

We reviewed the two new models to find out.

Samsung confirms new flagship smartphone launch for the second half of 2017

Samsung posted its Q1 2017 earnings today and it's evident that the Galaxy Note 7′s demise contributed to the decline in revenue from the mobile business as Samsung didn't have a new flagship smartphone on the market.

It's now planning to turn things around by maximizing sales of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ while also confirming that another flagship smartphone is due in the second half of this year.

Samsung normally launches a new Galaxy Note flagship in the second half of the year, that's what it has been doing for the past few years. However, there was some speculation last year that perhaps it might ditch the Galaxy Note lineup altogether.

That might not be the case, though, given that Samsung has previously said that the Galaxy Note lineup isn't going anywhere and that a new handset will be launched in 2017. The fact that it has reiterated the launch of a second flagship in the earnings release goes to show that Samsung is surely going to go ahead with it.

Whether or not the upcoming flagship carries the tainted Galaxy Note branding remains to be seen.

Samsung To Release 600MHz Capable Handset, Says T-Mobile CTO | Androidheadlines.com

T-Mobile's Chief Technology Officer Neville Ray took to Twitter to reveal that Samsung will release a smartphone that will take advantage of the wireless carrier's newly acquired 600MHz spectrum, adding that people should expect the smartphone to be released around the holiday season, while other OEMs are reportedly already making plans to release smartphones that will also use the 600MHz spectrum for LTE connectivity. At this point, no current smartphones, even the flagship ones, can take advantage of the 600MHz LTE spectrum, as new modems like the Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 LTE Modem will be needed to use the said frequency. This particular modem from Qualcomm has yet to appear in its Snapdragon SoCs, while the latest chipset in its lineup, the Snapdragon 835, is equipped with the Snapdragon X16 LTE Modem.

T-Mobile heavily invested in the 600MHz spectrum, with the wireless carrier spending $7.99 billion to pick up approximately 45 percent of the auctioned spectrum. This new spectrum, which was formerly held by TV broadcasters, will boost T-Mobile's LTE coverage, especially in the rural areas, as its frequency can travel greater distances and penetrate buildings more efficiently. The company's latest purchase effectively quadruples the size of its low-band LTE portfolio, which will also allow for more users to connect to the network due to the increased bandwidth that's now available.

T-Mobile has drastically improved its network over the past few years, with the company investing in new frequencies and infrastructure on a regular basis. Those efforts have recently been paying off, with T-Mobile being the fastest carrier in certain regions and the second best carrier in terms of LTE availability, according to an OpenSignal study released last February. Nonetheless, some coverage issues that T-Mobile needs to deal with still exist. Among them is the poor wireless carrier in rural areas caused by T-Mobile's initial focus on urban areas due to the limitations of high-band spectrum held by the company during the early part of this decade. Since then, T-Mobile has improved its LTE coverage in rural areas by deploying infrastructure capable of using the 700MHz spectrum. Following all of the aforementioned infrastructure improvements, the wireless carrier now claims it is reaching 232 million current and potential customers across the United States.

Study finds Samsung’s S8 phones more prone to screen cracks

FILE - In this Wednesday, March 29, 2017, file photo, the Samsung Galaxy S8, right, and S8 Plus appear on display after a news conference, in New York. SquareTrade, a company that sells gadget-repair plans, says Samsung's latest phones, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, are more prone to damage than earlier models due to their larger displays and high amount of glass. (AP Photo/Mary Altaffer, File)

NEW YORK (AP) — Samsung's latest phones feature big wraparound screens and lots of glass. They also appear to break more easily, according to tests run by SquareTrade, a company that sells gadget-repair plans.

The nearly all-glass design of Samsung's Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus makes them beautiful, SquareTrade said, but also "extremely susceptible to cracking when dropped from any angle."

Samsung had no comment.

The new phones have received positive reviews from The Associated Press and other outlets. Samsung says advanced orders for the S8 were 30 percent higher than that for the Galaxy S7 phones. The company didn't release specific figures. The S8 starts at $750, which is about $100 higher than the S7.

SquareTrade said Monday that cracks appeared on screens of both the S8 and S8 Plus after just one face-down drop onto a sidewalk from six feet. The phones had similar problems when dropped on the backs and sides.

Unsurprisingly, both models did well in water-drop tests. The phones had some audio distortion, but that is typical and temporary. The S8 has water-resistance features.

SquareTrade didn't test the phones' battery, the source of problems that led to a recall of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 phone.

Apple Testing Numerous Features On iPhone 8, Smartphone Release Date Could Be Delayed

Apple is reportedly testing numerous technologies for its iPhone 8, sources told Bloomberg.

Information from sources back previous rumored features expected on the 10th anniversary device this fall. However, the new technology could possibly delay the iPhone 8's release date by one or two months after it is revealed because of supply constraints, the report said.

Read: Apple's Gift Suggestions For Mother's Day Include The iPad Pro And BeatsX Earphones

Here are some features the iPhone 8 could come with, according to the Bloomberg report:

iPhone 8 Rumored Design Features

Apple is apparently testing a "revamped iPhone with an all-screen front, curved glass and a stainless steel frame," the report said.

The design features of the iPhone 8 mentioned by the sources are similar to previous rumors. On Monday, Japanese blog Mac Otakara said the iPhone 8 would come with stainless steel frame to hold together the front and back glass panels of the device.

iPhone 8 Rumors: OLED Display And Screen Size

The iPhone 7S and 7S Plus are expected to have LCD displays, like previous rumors have indicated. For the iPhone 8, the sources said Apple will use an edge-to-edge OLED screen display provided by Samsung, backing a recent Nikkei report which said Apple placed orders for 70 million OLED panels from Samsung. However, the Bloomberg report said Apple ordered around 100 million panels from Samsung. The DigiTimes reported recently Apple signed a $9 billion two-year contract with Samsung for OLED displays.

Read: iPhone 7 Vs Galaxy S8: Speed Test Video Shows Apple Still Ahead of Samsung

The display is said to be larger than that of the iPhone 7 Plus, released last year, but will have an overall size closer to the iPhone 7, sources told Bloomberg.

Embedded Touch ID

Apple will reportedly reduce the smartphone's size by embedding the home button into the screen via software like the in the Samsung Galaxy S8, people close to the matter said. However, this week, Pacific Crest Securities equity research analyst recently said Apple will likely ditch its plan of embedding the Touch ID into the iPhone 8 display. A note to investors from an analyst at Cowen and Company last week said Apple's biggest trouble among iPhone 8 features was embedding the Touch ID. He also said Apple could ditch the idea or delay the production of the iPhone 8.

New Camera Technology

The Bloomberg report said Apple is testing more advanced cameras for the iPhone 8. For the back camera, Apple is reportedly testing versions of the iPhone for better photos by positioning the dual-camera system vertically instead of horizontally like on the iPhone 7 Plus. Apple is apparently testing dual-lenses for the front camera, an upgrade from the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which have single cameras. The company has explored adding augmented reality-based features and depth-of-field enhancements to its iPhone camera system, it was learned earlier this year.

The iPhones this year will run iOS 11 that will "include a refreshed user-interface," the report said. The software update is expected to be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, Calif. this June.
