Vimeo LLC is getting back into mobile videos.

The company, owned by Barry Diller's IAC/InterActiveCorp, is reintroducing its Cameo smartphone video-editing app after spending about a year overhauling the software. The application lets users add title slides, splice clips together and add captions before sharing a video on Vimeo's platform or other social-media sites such as Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc.

Vimeo, which has an audience of more than 160 million viewers a month, has been bolstering its catalog of videos, luring filmmakers with feature-length movies and shorter series. The push to add videos taken and edited on smartphones aims to capture a format that's popular on YouTube, which is operated by Google Inc.

"The best camera you have on you is going to be your cell phone 99% of the time," Andrew Pile, chief technology officer of Vimeo, said in an interview.

Vimeo has been looking for ways to boost sales after a reorganization at IAC lifted the profile of the video-streaming site. While Mr. Diller's company doesn't break out sales for Vimeo, revenue for the media unit that includes Vimeo has increased more than 5% in each of the past three quarters.

Vimeo has been vying for viewers' time in an increasingly crowded market. Unlike YouTube, IAC's company has stayed away from advertising, and instead makes money by charging filmmakers for subscriptions to upload high-quality video, which can be sold or rented to viewers.

Vimeo's subscription model has helped the site maintain its roots as a place for professional videographers to share their work, an identity that the company sought to keep for the revamp of Cameo.

"There's a big gap between creating and creating something that is a little more polished and a little more styled," Kerry Trainor, chief executive officer of Vimeo, said in an interview.
