Microsoft Lumia 550 release official, available now

It actually was designed for users who are willing to use a smartphone that is running Windows 10 Mobile and which is available at an affordable price. The $139 (£92) handset, which will come in Glossy White and Matte Black, is initially introduced in Europe with others markets in the target list in the coming weeks.

Moving away from the ordinary stuff, Microsoft has brought over the Lumia 540 to India and for price of Rs 10,199 there's a lot of Nokia-element to this device. And because it's a Windows Phone, it also ships with Office 365, OneDrive, and Cortana.

This is a budget handset, though, so do not go expecting insane processing abilities or performance. The Lumia 550 is Microsoft's answer to the budget-minded buyer, retailing at far less than the previously released flagships. Officially available starting today, it is first being released in Europe, with other major markets across the globe to follow shortly.

If you were hoping to get a phone that runs Windows 10, but aren't willing to shell out for a brand-new flagship Lumia 950 or 950 XL, then you're in luck.

Although the three phones all share Windows 10 features, the Lumia 550 doesn't have Continuum and Windows Hello functions.

The handset is powered by a hexa core Snapdragon 808 processor from Qualcomm and it also comes with 3GB of RAM. It also includes 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, 2,500mAh battery, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, and it runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The new Lumia 550 sports a 4.7-inch display with a pixel resolution of 1280 x 720pixels. Therefore, if you are curious regarding the changes introduced in the new mobile OS developed by the Satya Nadella's company, this might be the most affordable way to try it. The Lumia 550 has the usual WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities.

On the back of the Lumia 550, there's a 5-megapixel camera with f/2.4 aperture and a single LED flash, which is capable of recording 720p video at 30 frames-per-second.
