Nintendo NX release date confirmed for March 2017

Nintendo will focus primarily on the new Zelda at E3, while the NX will be absent from the show. According to Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima, the reason for the holdout is to ensure that all games are completely ready for launch next March. "Additional information about Nintendo's E3 plans will be announced in the future", the company revealed.

The highly anticipated Nintendo NX is set to make its global debut in March 2017, Nintendo officially confirmed.

Recently, NeoGAF user "10k" shared some details about Wii U games that could also wind up on Nintendo's new console.

The company also said to release more smartphone games this year. Many fans of Nintendo and various media had speculated that Nintendo would release NX at some point in late 2016 before today's release date confirmation.

The interesting thing there is Nintendo specifically mentioning a brand new concept in their statement. This announcement came amidst a great deal of speculation and rumors that production of the Wii U would cease this year.

The new Zelda, meanwhile, will launch across both the Wii U and NX platforms, much as Twilight Princess did on the GameCube and first-gen Wii.

Nintendo also confirmed that the NX would not be shown during the video game industry's biggest event, the annual Electronic Gaming Expo in June. We won't get to see it at E3, which is a bit of a surprise, with all of the attention reserved for the upcoming new game in the Zelda series.

If the Wii U's successor is going to end Nintendo's decadelong console slump, the gaming giant still isn't giving any hints as to how.
