Lenovo unveiled the Phab2 Pro, the first flagship Project Tango smartphone, on Thursday at the company's Tech World event in San Francisco. The idea of the project is to give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion that will allow the devices to provide more data to users than is seen on a touch screen.
You see, unlike most manufacturers that trumpet how great their device's camera is or how fast it can be unlocked with a finger, Lenovo chose one aspect to focus on - one it teased earlier this year at CES. It comes with a 4050 mAh battery along with a fingerprint scanner.
The technology will enable advanced augmented reality systems that can recognise objects in the world around the user and overlay information in real time, a feature often called "Terminator vision", after the1984 film. Tango-enabled devices like the Phab2 Pro are able to sense physical motion and space, track depth, and visualize and understand surrounding objects.
The Phab2 and Phab2 Plus are going to be released this summer and will be aggressively priced at $199 and $299, respectively.
The Phab2 Pro comes with an eight-core 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, 64GB of internal storage, and 4GB of RAM.

Like the Lenovo Phab2 Pro, both the Phab2 and Phab2 Plus have 6.4 inch screens.
While the Phab 2 or Phab 2 Plus are nowhere close to the high-end Tango device - the Phab 2 Pro, Lenovo has ensured affordable AR with numerous attractive features found in higher-end models. The Project Tango technology integrated into this phone has resulted in the Phab 2 Pro having two 16-megapixels cameras on the back, a motion tracking, and a depth sensor. The Phab 2 Pro handset includes a myriad of special sensor and special software from Google that allows the device to sense and map its surroundings, according to Lenovo.
The smartphone features Dolby Audio Capture 5.1 with Dolby Atmos playback capabilities to help capture life's moments on video with great quality audio and packs a 16MP camera. All these products will be available worldwide beginning in September.
Lenovo has said that there will be around 25 apps in a dedicated app store upon launching the phone, but that will increase to 100 apps at the close of the year.
