The OnePlus 5 is a new smartphone from Chinese mobile technology company OnePlus.

The launch was officially announced on June 20 in a live stream watched by people around the world.

The announcement followed weeks of speculation, rumours and leaks about the product.

When is the OnePlus 5 being released in the UK?

Tech enthusiasts who watched the live product launch received a special code, enabling them to buy theirs online immediately from the OnePlus UK site.

For those who missed it, the device will be available to buy directly from the company from Tuesday, June 27.

In the UK, it will also be available on contract exclusively from O2.

There will be two versions of the smartphone on sale with slightly different features, costing different amounts.

The Midnight Black version (8 GB RAM / 128 GB storage) will sell for £499.

The Slate Gray version (6 GB RAM / 64GB storage) will cost £449.

The OnePlus 5 features what the manufacturer calls "the highest resolution dual-camera system on a smartphone today".

There are customisable vibration settings, meaning you get a different buzz in your pocket depending on who is calling.

You can customise swiping shortcuts to open certain apps – so you could set it up to open Spotify when you drawn an "S" on the phone screen with your finger.

OnePlus also says half an hour plugged in gives the 7.25 mm phone enough power to last the whole day.
