Samsung Selects Suprema BioSign Solution for Its Latest Galaxy J5 and Galaxy A7 Smartphones

Suprema introduced BioSign 2.0 in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Samsung, LG to Release New Flagship Phones Next Month

Samsung and LG will release their flagship smartphones next month.

Industry sources said Sunday that Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 is set to be released on Sept. 15 with pre-orders starting from Sept. 1. LG is expected to release its flagship V30 at about the same time.

Ahead of their releases here, the Note 8 will have a launch event in New York on Aug. 23, while the V30 will be unveiled at the IFA consumer electronics fair in Germany a week later.

In the past, Samsung and LG have released their flagship gadgets and devices about a month apart in order not to affect each other's sales, but a fiercer than usual competition appears unavoidable this time with the simultaneous release.

Industry insiders said the move was unlikely to have a great impact on their respective sales, and could even benefit both handset makers by generating increased interest among customers.

    Lenovo won’t release the Nougat update for some of its phones

    Lenovo has revealed that it won't release the much-anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat update for any of its Phab-branded smartphones, including the Phab 2, Phab 2 Plus and Phab 2 Pro.

    It's strange that the firm has decided to skip the upgrade for the Phab 2 Pro, because it was the first consumer-focused Tango AR handset to hit the shelves — and that was only last year.

    I'm not sure about you, but if I'm spending 500 bucks on a smartphone that bundles so-called revolutionary technology, I'd expect it to receive at least the next major build of Android.

    This is sure to be unpopular

    We have a feeling the Lenovo's plan is going to be met with harsh criticism from existing customers, who it needs to retain, so there's a (good) chance it will change course on its decision in the near future.

    Andy Rubin’s Essential Smartphone Is Now ‘In Full Mass Production,’ Release Date To Be Announced Next Week

    Andy Rubin has now confirmed that the Essential Phone will get a release date next week. The smartphone, now in mass production, will compete with Apple's and Samsung's handsets.  ( Andy Rubin | Twitter )

    Essential, a startup Android cofounder Andy Rubin formed, has raised $300 million in funding, backed by investors the likes of Amazon, Tencent, and Foxconn.

    That means reports back in June were true. With new money in its coffers, Rubin's company can push its Essential PH-1 smartphone forward.

    In fact, Rubin confirmed via Twitter that the $700 smartphone is already in "full mass production." Reuters adds the company will announce a formal release date next week.

    Rubin also shared some photos showing the production process, with stacks of what looks to be PH-1's outer frames being carried away by a mechanical carousel. Despite the release next week, Essential has spoken very little of its phone. There have been some speculations that it could be another case of vaporware, but we've already seen the hardware and gotten a look at its spec sheet, so everything seems to be in order.

    Essential PH-1 Specs

    The Essential PH-1 will rival Apple's iPhone 8 and Samsung's Galaxy S8. It boasts a lot of the usual flair: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, Adreno 540 for graphics, 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of onboard storage, and a 3,040 mAh battery for juice, just a tad bit more than the Galaxy S8's 3,000 mAh capacity.

    Its design is fairly unusual, though, which might definitely look bothersome for other people. There's a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, but on the topmost part sits a front-facing camera, which disrupts the shape of the screen. Going bezel-less is commendable, though, but customers have to contend with the odd design choice if they plan on purchasing the device.

    The Essential PH-1 will launch exclusively via Sprint in the United States but will be available unlocked on Amazon's website, reports Business Insider. Both Essential and Best Buy will also carry the handset through their individual stores.

    Is The Essential PH-1 Worth Considering?

    For a lot of reasons, the Essential PH-1 looks great on paper. It seems there's really not much wrong it can do, thanks to Rubin's expertise in mobile devices. However, while it may get many things right, it's also true that other smartphones including cheaper ones have already proven their merit. Breaking into the industry with a $700 premium smartphone is a bold move, but hopefully, Rubin can pull it off.

    Essential Home

    Aside from a smartphone, Essential plans to release a smart speaker called the Essential Home, due later this year. It will compete with Google's Home and Apple's HomePod. It'll host similar features found in current smart home devices, but the pitch is different: Essential Home is tailored for interacting with various smart home ecosystems. Users will be able to use Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Siri to make voice commands.

    With August 10th marked as the release date for LG Q6, how many of you would snap up this $435 USD smartphone?

    Wait, what? For $435 USD, you will be getting all the above? Seriously?

    You can smell from far away that the Q6 will be one expensive smartphone that should have at least be in the medium to high range. But before we further scrutinise this device, let's first take a look at its other sibling – the Q8:

  • Q6 might not be as high tech as the Q8, but it will be coming with the new FullVision Display technology. The 18:9 screen brings a whole new dimension to the smartphone viewing experience. You get to immerse yourself in an entirely new level of experience of watching videos, gaming and browsing.

    Despite it having a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS screen, it makes for an incredible approach that makes it easy to handle with just one hand. Slim body, flat display surface and optimised bezel reduce annoying accidental touches. The metal frame is lightweight that is incredibly robust and is designed to absorb impact from any direction.

    Regarding hardware, this is where things start to turn sour for the Q6. With the Snapdragon 435 chipset, a lowly octa-core processor, decent graphics and 3GB RAM; it might not have the ingredients right to put it in the mid-range category. Perhaps a Snapdragon 6xx chipset is needed to elevate its status, but missing on this one.

    Even on the camera, you would expect more from LG. With the Q6, you are only getting a 13MP-5MP camera combination which is considered to be entry-level these days. It is that hard to put in a dual primary camera on this smartphone at least?

    Storage-wise, a good 32GB internal storage is enough for you to install all your favourite apps and games. The Q6 also comes with an expansion slot should you need more space, up to 256GB.

    A solid 3000 mAh battery is then available to supply the necessary juice to the Q6. Technically there's no trouble powering up the smartphone for a full day.

    Last but not least, the latest Android Nougat 7.0 operating system is said to accompany its release. Good news, as it brings the most recent enhancements, features and functions to the table; and will increase performance slightly.

    Conclusion:

    LG Q6 is an excellent smartphone but seems more suited for the entry-level. Not worth the price at all, so let's see the reception that it will be getting on its release date.
