Google has launched the Android Nougat 7.1 Developer Preview 2, bringing with it a number of useful upgrades and improvements to Google's mobile software.
New features are being tried out before a public launch, however only a select number of devices will have access to 7.1 as of this time, namely the Nexus 6P and 5X smartphones, as well as well as Pixel phone/devices and the Nexus 9 tablet.
For those with one of the listed devices above, the new preview build can be accessed via the Android Developers site now.
Google is gradually making Android Nougat available to other third-party manufacturers, with Samsung confirming that Galaxy S7 users will have the chance in a new beta program that has been launched.
UK customers with a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge smartphone can sign up to try out Android Nougat on their device, upgrading using the Galaxy Beta Program app from the Galaxy Apps Store.

Google has delegated responsibility for the rollout of the update on other devices to the manufacturers themselves, meaning that so far only a handful of new smartphones have been confirmed to ship with Android Nougat, including the LG V20 and the newly-revealed Huawei Mate 9.
And while Google is beginning the rollout of the Android Nougat 7.1 update to selected devices, users will once again need to have a Nexus or Pixel device and be signed up to the Android beta program to benefit.

Android Nougat 7.1 brings a number of new features to Google fans, particularly app developers looking to take advantage of the new software.
Top of the list is support for Google's Daydream virtual reality platform, meaning developers can begin to build new and immersive VR experience and apps for Android users.
There's also the ability to create and publish circular app shortcuts and launcher icons, which will help developers create a look to match the system seen in Google's new Pixel phones.
Also included is a restart button in the power menu, which was missing from the initial Android Nougat release, and support for image keyboards, which allow users to insert stickers and GIFs into apps.
