Huawei Launches Mate 9 Smartphone

Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. has launched the Mate 9, a high priced, high spec, smart phone to combat Apple's iPhone 7 Plus and Samsung's discontinued Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The China based company has release the Mate 9, which has a 5.9 inch full HD screen.

The manufacturer boasts that the handset's processing power makes it, the "most powerful smartphone in the world." Huawei's tests indicate that the software in the Mate 9 performs 80 percent better than major competitors after a year of use.

Analysts are skeptical of these claims but have had some positive points about the Mate 9. Neil Mawston, executive director at Strategy Analytics stated that the Mate 9 is just "another big screen smartphone." He did admit on CNBC that the Mate 9 was a "nice incremental improvement" and did a good job of "filling the Note 7 gap, at a lower price point than Apple." Mobile industry analyst Ben wood at CCS Insight said on CNBC via telephone that it "shows just how ambitious Huawei are," and "reiterates CCS Insight's belief that Huawei is emerging as a force to be recognized in the smartphone market."

The Mate 9 boasts 8 megapixel camera, 4 microphones that work together to enable directional sound recording, and 64GB memory. The Mate has a headphone jack unlike the iPhone 7. Huawei did not report where the Mate 9's battery was manufactured but claimed that the smartphone has been tested in house by the manufacturer and in independent research labs.

Ben Wood stated Huawei's smartphone competitors are unlikely to be worried about the release but stated that the "Mate 9 boosts Huawei's profile." He also stated that its success "comes down to price."

With Samsung's recall of the note 7, Huawei's position Europe and India may be boosted. Huawei states that the Mate 9 is a "high end performance device aimed at professional users."
