Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 release date, news and update: Three Surface Phone variants to take on iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy S8

Microsoft Surface Phone is said to be under development. The new smartphone is expected to roll out in three variants with an 8GB model reportedly in the works. The device is also expected to feature the fingerprint scanner in 2017.

The upcoming Microsoft Surface Phone is rumored to come in three variants, Windows Central reported. Reports say that the handsets will be paced with 4GB RAM, possibly a 6GB RAM and the premium variant will get 8GB RAM. Also, the upcoming Windows handset is said to be powered by the Intel Kaby Lake processor.

The new Microsoft Surface Phone is also rumored to feature a fingerprint scanner in the display which is also said to feature in other upcoming phones in 2017 like the iPhone 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8. Rumor has it that Microsoft Surface Phone will be launched in Spring 2017. However, Microsoft is yet to acknowledge the existence of the Surface Phone let alone its release date, specs and features.

Many are of the opinion that the Washington-based company is only waiting for the right time to announce the Microsoft Surface Phone. The company has reportedly recently acquired surfacephone.com as a domain name which has fueled rumors of the smartphone's imminent arrival.

Also, the company is expected to introduce three new smartphones in the Surface Phone line-up for 2017, according to reports.

There are some reports suggesting that Microsoft will release the Microsoft Surface Phone in January 2017.

The Microsoft Surface Phone coming in 2017 is said to sport an all-metal body, a 20MP Carl Zeiss rear camera coupled with a range of sensors. A fingerprint sensor is also rumored for the phone. The handset is also expected to come packed with a standard 512GB internal storage and the new-generation Intel Atom X3 processors.
