Samsung Confirms Galaxy Note FE for Release on July 7th

Via a press release published in Korea, Samsung has formally announced the Galaxy Note Fan Edition. The device was detailed in a WSJ report released late last month where the publication stated the phone would be released on July 7th. Since them, Samsung has confirmed this is indeed the date when the revived smartphone would go on sale.

The backstory of the Galaxy Note FE is probably well known by many. Back in September, Samsung began receiving reports of their newly introduced Galaxy Note 7 bursting into flames. This led to a worldwide recall of the handset which was quickly replaced with a second iteration of the phone that was promised to fix things. This, unfortunately, led to yet another recall for the same exact reason as the first. Eventually, Samsung canceled all production of the phone so they could narrow down the cause of this serious issue.

After announcing the battery flaws that led to the Note 7 exploding, Samsung announced they would revive the smartphone by re-releasing it with a smaller, safer battery and the same specifications as before in order to minimize the waste of resources. The company ruled out they wouldn't release the handset in the U.S., but they never specified, other than India, whether it would be sold in other countries. Now, we know it'll be released in South Korea, with other locations being "decided later."

As previously mentioned, the Galaxy Note FE will sport safer, 3200mAh batteries and the same 2016 specifications as the original Note 7, including a Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, a 12MP camera, 64GB of storage, an IP68 rating, USB-C, and a 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED display. Software-wise, Samsung will outfit the handset with the same OS and features as the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in which it'll feature the same UI and Bixby assistant. In addition, Samsung touts they'll include the S Pen as was the case with the original Note 7. It'll come in Black Onyx, Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, and Silver Titanium.

Samsung says they'll only ship 400,000 Note FEs which isn't many. In the same breath, considering how many Note 7s exploded, I wouldn't be surprised if they simply ran out of resources that were still intact. The company also says they'll sell it for 699,600 won which is roughly $611. We'll let you know if more information surfaces before the July 7th date.
