GoPro Releases More Free Apps For Video Editing

After GoPro acquired two startups offering powerful edition applications, now the California-based company has repackaged the software to offer GoPro users two free video editing apps.

According to CNet, one app is for advanced cutting, the other for automated edits. The two new video editing apps provided for free by GoPro offer an easy way to turn action-packed footage into something snappy, short and watchable. Both apps allow users to quickly create and share smartphone or GoPro videos.

Like Us on Facebook

Digital Trends reports that the first GoPro application is called Quik, formerly Replay. The app was formerly built by the French firm Stupeflix. Quik is being claimed to be the "fastest and easiest" way to transform your footage into an entertaining sequence.

Before adding effects and transitions, the video editing app can automatically analyze your video in order to find the best moments. Then Quik can also match the cuts to the beat of your chosen soundtrack. Users can also add title slides, custom text overlays and even emojis.

GoPro is offering now Quik for free. The application for iOS is available on iTunes Store, and the variant running on Android can be downloaded from the Play Store.

The second GoPro video editing app offering is called Splice. With the Splice application, users get more manual control over the look of their final cut. Splice might not be as fast as Quik but it still allows users to create "in just minutes" fully customized, professional-looking videos.

Splice was formerly designed by the Texas-based software company Vemory. The mobile app is described by its developer as packing "the power of a professional desktop editor."

Splice certainly comes with plenty of features and functionality. Editors are able to add filters, trim clips, choose transition styles, create slow-motion sequences and more. GoPro also makes Splice available for free, but for the moment, the app runs only on iOS.

Until now, most GoPro users usually used powerful third-party video editing applications instead of GoPro's bundled software. The new feature rich apps offered by the action-camera maker will help create a more seamless shoot-and-edit experience for videographers. GoPro users will be able create impressive clips with minimum effort.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ Product Placement, From Smartphones to Designer Suits

Sure, "Captain America: Civil War" sets Marvel's Avengers against each other — but all is harmonious with filmmakers and brands featured prominently in this Friday's release.

In addition to stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie and Elizabeth Olsen the new Marvel release features at least nine visible brands like Vivo phones, Audi, FedEx, Tom Ford and old-school Apple Macintosh computers.

"Civil War" marks the 13th film in the modern Marvel Cinematic Universe, which offer marketers the closest thing to a safe bet.

"Brands are usually afraid to go after new intellectual property, but with Marvel it never feels like new IP," Mike Bertolina, VP of brand integration at Branded Entertainment Network (formerly Corbis Entertainment) told TheWrap. "It's part of this established world we're all familiar with."

What's notable about product placement in a movie like "Civil War" is the meaningful way the brands are deployed. Take 98-year-old Captain America, who's cellphone use creates a powerful halo effect.

"Look at him in the last movie — he's so old school, he makes his notes on a notepad with a pen," Bertolina said. "Being the gadget in his hand would be a great place to be for any brand."

In a scene that introduced Tom Holland's new take on Spider-Man, we see a vintage Macintosh sitting on his desk, rescued from the garbage. There's no hipster novelty here — Peter Parker knows how to turn trash into treasure.

"What's great about the Avengers and these characters is that you identify with them not just for their abilities but who they are," Bertolina said. "It makes them that much more powerful than their hero alter egos."

Here's a list of prominent brands TheWrap spotted in "Captain America: Civil War":

Electronics• Vivo V3 Max smartphone: The gadget company is the coveted brand in Captain America's hand. The subliminal value of that specific placement is significant — Evans' hero is 98 and not the most adaptive to modern conveniences.

• Apple: Tom Holland's Peter Parker discusses his superpowers with Tony Stark (Downey) in his Queens bedroom, where a vintage Macintosh computer sits on Spider-Man's desk.

Cars• Audi: A longtime partner of the MCU, Audi provides show slick vehicles to chauffeur diplomatic types and chase bad guys in bigger chase scenes. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo even shot a short promotional film (above) featuring an Audi-driving family who get caught in the middle of an epic chase between Captain America, the Winter Soldier and Black Panther.• Volkswagen: Cap, Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) cruise around in a vintage VW. Look out for a cute laugh when Falcon refuses to move his seat for Bucky's comfort.

Fashion• Tom Ford: The iconic fashion designer pops up (and even gets an onscreen shout-out) on the back of Downey's Tony Stark. Ford is the man that suits up James Bond himself.• Lids / Flexfit by Yupoong: Captain America and Falcon wear these baseball caps, respectively, giving slick cred to the brands.• Ray-Ban Sunglasses: The legendary Aviators pop up on Cap's face, though one individual familiar with the movie's product placement said Ray-Ban didn't pay to be included. The costume choice makes sense — Steve Rogers is a WWII pilot, after all.

Good and Services• FedEx: The international shipping giant plays a very important role in a surprise scene we wouldn't dare spoil.

"Captain America: Civil War" opens nationwide on Friday.

Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Pro release date, specs rumors roundup: All you need to know

Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Pro release date, specs rumors roundup: All you need to know

Apple's next generation smartphone is all set to become a reality pretty soon. Though the release date is not clear as yet, nonetheless rumors suggest that we may expect the 'super phone' from Cupertino based tech giant before long.

The tech giant is going to make a big change in the next generation iPhone. There are reasons to believe that Apple has finally decided to give up the headphone jack. This will make a huge impact on how the iPhone 7 will look.

Nonetheless as the tech giant doesn't really speak much about the future devices that the company launches, we cannot be sure if it is really going to be the case. The rumors related to the removal of headphone jack first started when the iPhone 6S was launched last year. A patent filed by the Cupertino-based firm said that the headphone jack was preventing the company from making its phones thinner. The iPhone 6 was the thinnest iPhone at 6.9 mm thickness. Apple made the iPhone 6S thicker to render it stronger than its predecessor.

To be true, given the fiasco called iPhone SE, Apple is putting lots of hope on iPhone 7. Recent reports based on leaks in a Japanese magazine that published what it claims are authentic schematics of the iPhone 7, state that the new device will not have the headphone jack but it will not be much thinner. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims Apple is set to end the tradition by retaining a two-year-old design in order to introduce radical design changes in next year's device; the iPhone 8, may feature an OLED display without the physical home button.

Reports suggest that the company will upgrade the camera too.The rear dual camera is touted as one of the key specifications of this year's phone. The report published in Japanese magazine said that a dual-camera module will be introduced this year to improve features like Live Photos. A dual-camera setup can be used to click pictures when shooting video while also allowing video shooting at different frame rates with two modules. The leak also revealed the rumored iPhone 7 Pro, about which not much information is available. However, the release of three phones this fall has been widely reported.

Samsung's Next VR Headset Won't Need a Smartphone: Report

The company is creating a design for a standalone VR headset that doesn't rely on a smartphone, like more-costly units from Oculus and HTC.

Samsung is developing an advanced, stand-alone VR headset that won't require a user to link it to a compatible smartphone, which is necessary with the company's basic $100 Gear VR consumer headset. The upcoming stand-alone virtual reality headset will incorporate advanced features, including positional tracking that is not found in the Gear VR, according to an April 27 article in Variety. The plans for the premium VR headset were unveiled by Injong Rhee, Samsung's head of R&D for software and services, at last week's Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco."We are working on wireless and dedicated VR devices, not necessarily working with our mobile phone," said Rhee, according to the article. Samsung is also working on features such as hand and gesture tracking for future generations of VR devices, but it may take a few more years for those features to arrive, the story reported. "VR is amazing, but the industry is still at its infancy," said Rhee.Samsung's $100 Gear VR virt ual reality headset was released in the fall of 2015 as a consumer version of virtual reality headsets made by Oculus. The Gear VR works with Samsung's latest smartphone models—the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge Galaxy S6 Edge+, S6 and S6 Edge. The Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR headsets do not require a smartphone to operate, but they are more expensive. The Oculus Rift is priced at $599 and began shipping on March 28. Earlier in March, Oculus also announced that some 30 new VR gaming titles would be available to play on the new devices as the first Rift VR headsets began shipping. The first 30 titles will be joined by more than 100 additional titles through the end of 2016, according to an earlier eWEEK story. The Rift is equipped with dual active-matrix organic LED (AMOLED) displays that are designed to provide users with incredible visual clarity as they explore virtual worlds with the device. The Rift also uses an infrared LED constellation tracking system that provides precise, low-latency 360-degree orientation and position tracking for users for accurate and fluid control and operation when playing games and simulations. Facebook acquired Oculus for $1.9 billion in March 2014 to expand its social media footprint. Also in March, Sony announced that it will be bringing virtual-reality game play to its PlayStation entertainment systems with a new $399 PlayStation VR headset that will go on sale starting in October. The October release is later than the company previously expected. The VR headset was called Project Morpheus when it was first unveiled as a prototype two years ago at the 2014 Game Developers Conference. In February, it was revealed that Google is in the midst of designing a stand-alone virtual reality headset device that would not require it to be used with a smartphone, unlike its existing Google Cardboard viewer. Google's stand-alone VR viewer project came on the heels of reports about Google's planned revision for its existing Google Cardboard viewer, which is made of folded cardboard. Google Cardboard wraps around a compatible smartphone, which provides the technology features that give the VR viewer its functions. The updated Google Cardboard viewer will still be used with a smartphone. The upcoming device will include additional support for the Android operating system and is expected to be released this year to replace Google Cardboard, according to an earlier eWEEK story.Google Cardboard, which first appeared in 2014, is a simple VR viewer made up of cut-and-folded cardboard that is shaped into a boxy-looking VR device. The gadget has a slot that accepts a compatible Android smartphone so that it can take advantage of the phone's display and oth er features. Several other parts are used besides the cardboard, including some Velcro, a rubber band, two small magnets and some aftermarket lenses, which can be purchased online. The first Cardboard device was dreamed up and built by Googlers David Coz and Damien Henry in 2014 at the Google Cultural Institute in Paris as part of a 20 percent project, which allows Google employees to use up to 20 percent of their work time to engage in projects that are interesting to them.In an April study, Strategy Analytics estimated that the global virtual reality headset market will bring in about $895 million in revenue in 2016, but while 77 percent of that revenue will come for premium-priced products from Oculus, HTC and Sony, the actual per-device sales totals will be dominated by lower-priced headsets from various vendors. The study predicted that three of the latest devices—the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive and the coming Sony PlayStation VR—will bring in the bulk of the segment's revenue this year. At the same time, though, those higher-priced devices will only make up about 13 percent of 12.8 million VR headsets that Strategy Analytics predicts will be sold in 2016, according to the report.

Samsung profits jump 14% on success of Galaxy S7 smartphone

Samsung's 1Q Profit up 14 Percent After Early Phone Debut

Samsung's revenue for the quarter was KRW 49.78 trillion, an increase of 5.7 percent YoY, while operating profit for the quarter was KRW 6.68 trillion, an increase of 12 percent YoY.

Samsung Electronics posted first-quarter profit that beat analyst estimates as it capitalized on a lull in new Apple products with the early release of its Galaxy S7 smartphones.

Counterpoint Research Senior Analyst Tarun Pathak told ET, "The impact of Galaxy S7 sales was for half month in March and the full impact will be in the current quarter whereby we expect Samsung may further expand its lead in the premium segment considering iPhone SE has been lukewarm demand till now". However, its profit (10.5 billion dollars - 9.5 billion euro) is still astonishing despite the fact it also dropped 22 % compared to the year before. Profit for the mobile division was 3.89 trillion KRW, up from 2.74 trillion KRW one year ago.

Samsung Electronics launched the latest versions of its flagship Galaxy smartphones on March 11, about a month earlier than its new phones launch past year.

Besides the S7 series, Samsung also said improved cost efficiency through the streamlining of mid-to-low-end smartphones helped the growth.

The company, without naming Nokia, said it had a one-time royalty settlement in the quarter that amounted to less than 1 percent of the mobile division's revenue.

Boasting a better camera, microSD storage and waterproofing the Galaxy S7 lineup of phones in on track to set new shipment records for the first year, lifting the hopes that the mobile business can post its first profit gain for a year in the past three years. The System LSI Business will strive to improve profitability YoY by increasing 14nm shipments and enhancing mid-to-low-end SoC line-ups.

"The S7 and Edge are showing robust sales performance in regions including North America", Lee said. The shares closed down 2.7% at W1,265,000. But to be fair, Samsung had about two years of nearly unremittingly blah quarterly results before it finally got a break. "That fear has been reflected in the share price". Operating profit for the chip division fell 6 percent to 2.6 trillion won, undercut by price declines for memory chips stemming from slower demand for products such as personal computers. Over the coming three months, the tech giant plans to cancel 1.3 million common shares and 0.32 million shares. The dropping sales numbers led Samsung to seven consecutive quarters of profit decline.
