OnePlus will announce its new OnePlus 5T smartphone on November 16, and you'll be able to buy it soon after

oneplus 5t video announcement eventYouTube/OnePlus

OnePlus fans will get their first official peak at the company's newest smartphone next week, and they'll be able to buy it later this month.

The startup smartphone maker will unveil the OnePlus 5T on November 16 at a press event in Brooklyn, the company said Monday. The new device will go on sale on November 21 in North America and Europe.

"We can't wait to tell you all about the new features and improvements that we have been working on," the company said in its announcement about the launch event.

OnePlus will start shipping "early-bird" orders of its new phone in India on November 21, but the device won't officially go on sale there until November 28. The startup will start selling the OnePlus 5T in China on December 1.

Few details are known about the OnePlus 5T, other than it will have a headphone jack, which could be a big selling point for some consumers. OnePlus has not yet released the new phone's specs or announced its price.

The company posted a YouTube video related to its announcement of the upcoming launch event. Although the video doesn't offer any substantive new details about the OnePlus 5T, it does offer a tag line for the event — "a new view" — that could lend credence to recent rumors regarding the OnePlus 5T's display.

Last week, prolific gadget leaker Evan Blass posted what he said was a photograph of the OnePlus 5T on Twitter:

— Evan Blass (@evleaks) October 30, 2017

Assuming it's of the actual device, the photograph indicates the OnePlus 5T will have a redesigned display with thinner borders around its screen than the original OnePlus 5, which the company released in June. For comparison, here's that device:

By offering a phone with thinner borders around its screen, OnePlus would match the latest devices from rival smartphone makers. Both the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Apple's iPhone X similarly have ultra-narrow borders around their screens.

iPhone X Release: How To Find Out If Smartphone Is Available At Apple Store

For those who weren't camping outside the Apple Store all night and didn't get a chance to get the new iPhone X, Apple is now listing the device's availability at stores on its site.

The new information, first spotted by MacRumors, shows which store has the iPhone X in stock for same-day pickup orders. Consumers in the U.S. can go to Apple.com, pick the iPhone X, select their carrier and color preference and then click the "Pickup: Check availability" option under the model capacity options. Customers can check the availability by plugging in their city or zip code.

For example, if customers plug in Seattle, they'll see nine stores in the area do not have availability for the iPhone X, while Los Angeles only displayed one store. Miami and New York had no availability.

If the site shows the iPhone X is available at a store, customers will be able to order their phone online and reserve it for same-day pickup (Apple usually asks to see a photo ID).

Other countries are also listing online the availability of the iPhone X at stores: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom. Meanwhile, some nations (Belgium, Canada, Mexico, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom ) have again started to take similar iPhone X reservations online.

The iPhone X was released in stores worldwide on Friday at 8 a.m. local time. Apple, carriers and retail stores began taking pre-orders for the device last Friday.

The 10th anniversary iPhone has been popular, with a greater response than the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Many customers who tried to get an iPhone X from an Apple store on Friday were turned away and were told to order the smartphone online instead.

Some people who pre-ordered the device last Friday had an estimated shipping date between Nov. 17-24, however, they saw their date improve to a time frame around Nov. 8. Those who order their iPhone X now on Apple.com should expect to wait 3-4 weeks.

The iPhone X is available in Space Grey and silver. The 64GB iPhone X model is priced at $999, while the 256GB version is going for $1,149.

The device comes with new features, like the Face ID, Animoji, an edge-to-edge Super Retina display with OLED technology, wireless charging and a vertical dual-camera system.

HTC U11+: Release date, price and specs of HTC's plus-size 'squeezable' smartphone

HTC has unveiled a new plus-sized version of its squeezable smartphone, known as the HTC U11+, featuring a 6-inch display, gigantic battery, and elongated body.

Like the HTC U11 , which launched in May, the U11+, gives users a new way to interact with their device beyond just tapping the screen.

The edges of the device are pressure-sensitive, allowing you to squeeze to access notifications and launch certain applications from the home or lock screen.

Here's everything you need to know about HTC's new top-of-the-range device.

Design

Like the HTC U11, the U11+ has an all-glass body that is slightly curved - inspired by the surface tension on water droplets. This gives it an attractive glossy appearance, but does means it picks up fingerprints easily.

The U11+ is longer and slimmer than the U11, measuring 158.5 x 74.9 x 8.5 mm and weighing 188g.

(Image: HTC)

The home button at the bottom of the screen has been removed in favour of a digital navigation bar, and the fingerprint reader is now positioned on the back of the device.

The rest of the buttons and ports are positioned on the narrow metal band that runs around the outside of the phone and binds the two glass panels together.

Like the HTC U11, it doesn't have a headphone jack, but ships with a set of HTC USonic earphones, which plug into the USB-C charging port. There's also an adaptor in the box, so you can continue using you old headphones if you prefer.

The HTC U11+ comes in three colours - Ceramic Black, Amazing Silver, and Translucent Black. Only the Ceramic Black version will be available in the UK.

Read More Display

The HTC U11+ has a 6-inch display with a 18:9 aspect ratio, putting it on a par with the Apple iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

The display is extremely sharp, with bright and vivid colours, and it stretches almost to the edges of the phone, with only extremely narrow bezels around the edge.

Edge sense

The HTC U11+'s stand-out feature is its Edge Sense technology, which allows you to squeeze the phone to launch apps without having to touch the screen.

For example, you can squeeze to launch the camera, and then squeeze again to snap a shot, or you can squeeze to launch HTC's Voice to Text service, which allows you to dictate text messages when your hands are full.

You can also squeeze from the lock screen to launch Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa without unlocking your phone.

Short squeezes and long squeezes can be programmed to perform different tasks, and the edge sensors can also be configured to match the sensitivity of the user's grip.

As well as being a fun new way to interact with your phone, Edge Sense is particularly useful if it's raining, if you have wet hands or if you're wearing gloves.

Read More Specs

The HTC U11+ has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip. There are two storage options - 128GB and 64GB, and they come with 6GB and 4GB RAM respectively.

It is also possible to expand the memory up to 256 GB using a microSD card.

It has a whopping 3,930mAh battery, which HTC claims offers up to 25 hours of talk time, and comes with Quick Charge 3.0 technology for fast charging.

It comes in single and dual SIM options, and features contactless NFC technology for use with Android Pay.

(Image: HTC) Camera

The phone features a 12MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus, optical image stabilisation, and HDR Boost technology, which gives you high dynamic range photographs without any lag.

The camera, which HTC claims is even better than the award-winning camera on the U11, is capable of 4K video recording, as well as slow-motion video at 120 frames per second.

An interesting feature called 3D audio ties audio recording levels to the zoom function on the camera, so you can visually zoom in to target your subject and amplify their specific sounds.

The HTC U11+ also features an 8MP selfie camera that incorporates the same powerful HDR Boost and noise reduction technology as in the main camera.

Read More Software

HTC U11+ runs the latest version of Android - Android 8.0 Oreo - so it includes Google's artificially intelligent voice assistant, Google Assistant .

However, Google is not the only AI voice assistant available on the HTC U11+. It also offers access to Amazon's personal assistant Alexa , so it can integrate with any Amazon Echo devices in your home.

The two personal assistants can be used individually or in combination, according to HTC.

Audio

The U11+ comes with HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi Edition speakers for solid, well-rounded sound out of the phone.

It also ships with HTC's USonic headphones with active noise cancellation, which continuously monitor environmental sound levels and adjusts to any new noises or disturbances.

The earphones supposedly use a sonar-like pulse and tiny microphones to analyse the inside of your ears, as well as the noise levels around you, and adjust the sound levels to suit your hearing.

Price and release date

The HTC U11+ will cost £699. That's £50 more than the HTC U11, but significantly cheaper than both the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Apple iPhone X.

It will be available in Ceramic Black in the UK, and can be pre-ordered at www.htc.com from 20 November.

DOCOMO and MediaTek Achieve World's First Successful 5G Trial Using Smartphone-Sized NOMA Chipset-Embedded Device to Increase Spectral Efficiency

TOKYO, Nov 3, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced today that in a joint trial conducted with MediaTek Inc. it has successfully developed a chipset to increase the spectral efficiency of mobile devices by up to 2.3 times compared to existing LTE technology. The chipset combines DOCOMO's non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) radio access technology and MediaTek's multi-user interference cancellation (MUIC) technology, which is required to achieve NOMA.

NOMA multiplexes signals at a base-station transmitter to leverage the increased signal processing capacity of user devices and cancel interference among multiplexed user signals. MUIC removes interference from other users when a base station transmits a signal to a number of users simultaneously.

During the trial, three smartphone-sized devices embedded with the chipsets, each placed in a different location, received data that was transmitted simultaneously from a base station using the same frequency, while t he transmission power of the signal transmitted to each device was adjusted. Using the developed chipset, each device successfully eliminated interfering signals intended for the other devices and received only the intended data, resulting in up to 2.3 times greater spectral efficiency than that of single-user Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO).

DOCOMO is forging ahead with its development of 5G technologies, aiming to increase the signal processing capacities of user devices in populated urban areas and standardize 5G's radio interface and improve spectral efficiency. Going forward, DOCOMO will continue to collaborate with world-leading vendors in its research and development of commercial 5G communications devices and services scheduled to launch in 2020.

razer phoneRazer's new smartphone.YouTube/Razer

Gaming company Razer is getting into the smartphone business.

And, as you might expect from the maker of high-powered gaming laptops, its new phone has outrageous specs and is geared for video games.

Indeed, judging from its specs, the Razer Phone, which the company announced Wednesday, could handily beat Apple's iPhone X, Google's Pixel 2, Samsung's Galaxy devices, and other top smartphones, when it comes to performance.

But the Razer Phone has another thing going for it that could even tempt non-gamers — its $700 price. That's a lot cheaper than many other top phones.

Check out Razer's new Phone:
