LG G5 Specs, Release Date Rumors: It Could Be A Full Metal Case?

www.ipos7.com

Rumors about the specifications and possible release date of LG G5 smartphone have been recently circulating online. The speculations are not totally baseless but the actual details about the new smartphone model cannot yet be officially verified. Some analysts are speculating that LG G5 is likely to have a full metal body, following the current trend in other brands. This will allow it to compete with the HTC and Apple smartphone models that have metal cases.

Most of the current speculations are based on the earlier model and immediate predecessor of the G5, the LG G4. As pointed out by some technology writers and bloggers, the LG G4 has several excellent features that almost made it at par with other high end brands in the market. The G5 could make up for some of the shortcomings of the G4. Some critics are indeed very hopeful that 2016 will be the year that will make the LG brand more impressive.

LG smartphone designs have so much potential that it may require only a few tweaks to make the LG G5 truly great. Although some technology bloggers are expecting metal and glass body for the new LG phone, there are others who pointed out that LG is not very fond of following aesthetic trends. They cited the G4 as an example, which has a plastic and leather case.

According to some writers, LG has to adapt to the new aesthetic design trends if it really intends to compete with Apple, Samsung, HTC and Sony. It might become a technology dinosaur if the designers remain caught in their semi-nonconformist ideas.

Final Fantasy IX set to release on PC and smartphones in Japan

    Final Fantasy IX

Square Enix is set to release another classic Final Fantasy on the PC and mobile devices next year. It's now Final Fantasy IX's turn to get the spotlight outside of consoles.

The PlayStation classic will sport sharper graphics and higher-res characters as can be seen in a trailer (below) released by Square Enix. While the graphics are crisper than before, they are faithful to the original, unlike the recently released Final Fantasy VI on PC, which doesn't contain the classic pixelated look.

On top of having improved graphics, Square Enix is also promising that this port of the game will have achievements, auto-save, high speed mode, and "several game boosting features." These are features the recently released version of Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation 4 also shares.

Final Fantasy IX may not be talked about as much as its PlayStation-era siblings, Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII, but it's a still a highly regarded and successful entry in the series — FFIX even has the highest rating out of all the Final Fantasy games on Metacritic. Square Enix has revealed that the game has currently sold over five million copies worldwide since it was released in 2000. The game was also released for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PSP as a downloadable title back in 2010.

As of now, this game is only slated for a Japanese release. However, every Final Fantasy game that has been ported to PC and mobile in Japan eventually made their way to the West, so it's really only a matter of time before an official Western release is announced.

Millions wasted as Aussies keep old phones in drawers

Almost 35 per cent of smartphone owners are expected to update their handset in the next year.

Australians are sitting on millions of dollars worth of technology, with almost half of all mobile phone users keeping their old models instead of selling or trading them in.

This is in contrast with other countries with high smartphone ownership, where the overwhelming majority sell their old phones for cash or exchange them.

The latest results from the Deloitte mobile consumer survey revealed that 48 per cent of Australians hold on to their old mobile phones, 27 per cent gave them away, 15 per cent recycled them, just 8 per cent sold them, and 2 per cent lost them.

For those Aussies who do choose to rid themselves of their old mobiles, the majority (63 per cent) prefer to sell them online.

Overseas, mobile phone owners in Singapore are the best at selling their old models, with 26 per cent doing so. This is followed by the UK (21 per cent), Japan (20 per cent), Germany (16 per cent) and Canada (13 per cent).

Report lead author Jeremy Drumm said many Australians kept their old models for a rainy day, as a quick replacement if their new phone breaks.

"Almost 50 per cent of people said they put their old phones in a drawer, so they're not even sharing it with their family," he said.

Australians overwhelmingly prefer to buy new phones, which could explain why there is such a small market for second-hand phones, he added. This is despite the fact that the two dominate mobile phone brands, Apple and Samsung, release new models every year.

Australia has one of the highest smartphone penetration rates in the world, with 79 per cent of those aged 55 and under owning one. Six in ten Australians own multiple devices, such as tablets.

Apple's iPhone remains the most popular handset, at 41 per cent, although Android is the dominant operating system.

Samsung is the second most popular mobile brand (32 per cent), distantly followed by Nokia (6 per cent) and HTC (5 per cent).

Some telecommunication companies offer trade-ins, although many more encourage customers to donate their old devices to be recycled. Mr Drumm said Apple and Samsung will introduce new-device trade-in and upgrade programs in the near future, which could kick-start the re-sell industry.

There are also increasing ways for people to trade-in or sell their old phones, from auction websites to direct with phone companies.

Almost 35 per cent of smartphone owners are expected to update their handset in the next year.

A Telstra spokesman said increasing innovation was driving people to want to upgrade their mobile phones more frequently. He added that 15.6 tonnes of old mobile phones and accessories were collected during 2014-15 for recycling.

Worldwide, the used-mobile-phone industry is worth $7 billion.

Final Fantasy 9 headed to PC and smartphones

Final Fantasy 9 is set to make its debut on Android, iOS and Windows PC, Square Enix announced today.

No release date has been confirmed for the ports as of yet, but the publisher did share a trailer for the upcoming re-release. You can check it out above. Final Fantasy fans might appreciate that the game doesn't look a whole lot different from the original, unlike the recent, revamped Steam and smartphone ports of Final Fantasy 6.

As the last Final Fantasy title for the original PlayStation console, the game first launched in November 2000. It's since been made available as a downloadable classic on the PlayStation Store, but this marks the first time it will be available on a non-PlayStation platform.
