LG X Cam and X Screen specialist smartphones to release in March

LG Electronics has announced another mid-range phone - this time armed with a stylus - that will go on display at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain. The two devices have been dubbed as LG X cam and LG X screen.

LG's latest premium smartphone the V10, which was released last October, also has both features. The presence of two lenses could be used for a range of new LG camera features, such as selective focusing after a photo has already been taken (something already found on the HTC One M8).

Featuring a 5.2in FHD display, the X cam is built using LG's 3D Bending Glass for a curved front edge that is lightweight at just 118g but also fits snugly inside your hand.

The X screen's display always shows the time, date and notifications.

The phones consist of modules you clip together to customise your ideal handset, complete with camera, RAM, GPU and display of choice, meaning new modules can be purchased for an upgrade or replacement, rather than buying an entirely new device. Also, the X Screen is shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

Next in line, LG X screen sports a 4.93 capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution, as well as a secondary 1.76-inch LCD with 520 x 80 pixels resolution. The handset measures 142.6mm x 71.8mm 7.1mm, and comes in Black, Pink Gold, or White colors. With Android Marshmallow and LTE connectivity on board, both the X cam and X screen still have a reasonable chance of satisfying most users' needs, even without having the most outstanding components within.

It's the X Cam that's the more exciting phone; it's got twin cameras on the rear. The announcement is well overdue - it will be a full year since its initial announcement at MWC 2015, and in August the company said the United Kingdom would be the first company in Europe to receive the service, but six months on, we're still waiting.
