Huawei Files Trademark Application: Google's Next Nexus Smartphone on the Cards?

And the 6-inch Nexus phones were released as Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P. It could very well be the successor of the Nexus 6P, offering Android N operating system and latest hardware. While today's rumor is far from a confirmation, the Huawei 7P name has been trademarked ahead of a potential release.

Although it would be high times to get an affordable tablet with vanilla Android on it, Google hasn't really shown any signs of making such a device anytime soon, unless we take into consideration Project Tango. Huawei now seems to be moving in the wrong direction, shipping smartphones with its own overlay. Speculations are suggesting that the company is either working on a successor for Nexus 6P smartphone or Nexus 7 2013 tablet. Earlier this year, we wrote that the EMUI was holding back the budget-friendly Honor 5X, so to see it ship on the likely high-end Huawei 7P is somewhat disheartening. After all, Huawei is trying to break into the global market and onto the U.S. market especially, and if you look at what other companies are offering, good, affordable, compact tablets are not entirely widely available.

We'll update you if we hear anything more about it.

Production of the Nexus 2016 could already be underway as Google's manufacturing partner for last year's Nexus has reportedly filed trademark application for an upcoming smartphone initially labelled as Huawei 7P.

Unfortunately, the trademark filing doesn't offer any indication for how the Huawei 7P might differ from the Nexus 6P. It is speculated to feature 5.7-inch Quad HD screen, a Snapdragon 820 or 823 SoC and 4 GB of RAM. It might, therefore, want to bring out a new smartphone that is not running the stock Android but with the same design of the Nexus 6P. The hundreds of positive reviews of the phone have propelled the company to even bigger fame internationally, even though the brand was pretty well-established in Asian and European countries before.
