Many people expected the company to reveal its new flagship smartphone at the recently concluded IFA 2016. However, that did not happen. Now, new reports have emerged suggesting that Microsoft Surface Phone could be released in 2017.
One of the reasons experts are looking at is the arrival of Intel's Kaby Lake processor. It has been reported that Microsoft's next entry in the smartphone market will run on Intel's next generation core processor.
According to Mobile & Apps, the powerful chipset would not be available until late this year. If Microsoft decides to launch the Surface Phone this year, a Kaby Lake powered smartphone seems impossible.
The publication added that Microsoft Surface Phone will most likely arrive next year with Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2. All models are said to come with Kaby Lake processors. The base unit will carry 3 GB of RAM paired with 32 GB of storage capacity.
The next variant carries 6 GB of RAM paired with 128 GB storage capacity. The top-tier model is expected to come with 8 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 500 GB. However, these reports have yet to be confirmed by Microsoft.
In a report by Tech Times, Microsoft Surface Phone will come out in three variants. All models will differ in specs and prices. According to the publication, Microsoft is planning to hold an event in October, which the company may launch the Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5.
