Nokia TA-1000 Aka Nokia E1 Passes Chinese 3C Certification, Launch Imminent

As you might be aware of the news regarding Nokia powered Android smartphones will make their debut in 2017, rumors are rife over the same. We already know that Nokia is planning at least four to five smartphones to release in 2017.

The smallest of all the Nokia phones, the Nokia D1C was rumored to be the entry-level phone, but a couple of days ago, a relatively new Nokia phone dubbed as the Nokia E1 was popped online.

And today, a new Nokia phone has passed the mandatory Chinese 3C certification, namely, the Nokia TA-1000. Although, the certification site did not reveal any specs of the phone, but suggests that Nokia phones are not so much time away from the official launch.

The certification site revealed that the phone does not have support for fast charging capabilities, making us believe that it won't be a flagship phone and it does have LTE support.

According to us, the phone will be the recently rumored Nokia E1 with entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset; maybe we can see a new Snapdragon 200 series chipset along with 1GB of RAM.

As of now, there is no official information from the company, so we suggest you take these leaks with a pinch of salt.

Nokia plans to launch at least 5 new Android smartphones in 2017: Report

Nokia to release at least five new Android smartphones in 2017, reveals a leaked product

Nokia is all set to make its comeback to smartphone market with Mobile World Congress in February. Nokia has already formalised its brand-licensing deal with HMD Global and now reports indicate that we can expect at least 5 smartphones in 2017.

Finland-based HMD Global is reportedly developing four more smartphones for launch in the second and third quarter of 2017. Nokia has been long rumoured to introduce two flagships and a mid-range smartphone at MWC next year. According to new report at Digitimes, HMD Global will showcase D1c as the first Nokia-branded smartphone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Nokia D1C has already leaked multiple times in the past. The smartphone is rumoured to come in two variants and could be priced around Rs 10,000 in India. The two variants are expected to be different only in terms of their display size, onboard memory and camera resolution.

Nokia D1C is expected to come with 5-inch and 5.5-inch Full HD displays. The small screen variant is expected to feature 2GB RAM while the 5.5-inch variant is expected to come with 3GB RAM. The smartphones are also expected to feature a 13MP and 16MP primary camera. There will be 16GB or 32GB storage depending upon the variant.

Nokia D1C is expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and graphics duty is likely to be taken care of by Adreno 505 GPU. Nokia's comeback smartphones are expected to come with screen sizes ranging from 5-inch to 5.7-inch with WQHD or Full HD resolution display panels. HMD Global has already partnered FIH Mobile (a subsidiary of Nokia) for mobile manufacturing.

Digitimes report also adds that Nokia's smartphones will come with display panels from LG Display, Century Technology and Innolux. It is unclear whether Nokia has shelved its plan to launch a flagship device at MWC 2017.

Microsoft Surface Phone rumors: New device could end up being a business-first smartphone

#Microsoft #SurfacePhone – Microsoft Surface Phone rumors: New device could end up being a business-first smartphone : Whenever Microsoft does decide to launch their Surface Phone, one of the challenges they will face is related to establishing a market for it, though rumors have hinted that the technology giant may already have an idea of what needs to be done.

Specifically, when this new device does come out, people can apparently count on it being a kind of niche offering, though that niche should still be pretty well-populated.

Earlier this year, a report from ZDNet mentioned that Microsoft's rumored offering will be "focused on the business market."

Since then, even if rumors about the device's specs and release date have been all over the map at times, the same business-focused design continues to be linked to the Surface Phone.

More recent rumors have even hinted that this particular business-oriented approach to the creation of the new smartphone could have an impact on its eventual price.

If the new Microsoft smartphone does end up getting made with professionals in mind, then its price tag could reflect that, and it could turn out to be higher in relation to other devices on the market, according to a recent report from PC-Tablet.

Going down this route could prove to be a smart move for Microsoft as they attempt to jumpstart their smartphone division, but it's still unclear exactly when they may decide to finally show off their new flagship device.

With Microsoft now expected to make an appearance at the Mobile World Congress, rumors have hinted that perhaps that late-February event could be the launching pad for the new smartphone.

Still, that MWC launch is far from guaranteed, and a recent report from Nokia Power User noted that the phone may come out later in 2017 as opposed to sometime in February or March.

Hopefully for those looking for the new flagship device, Microsoft will clear things up sooner than later, and exactly what the Surface Phone can do will soon be known.  Source: ecumenicalnews

HMD Global To Release 5 Nokia Android Smartphones In 2017

HMD Global acquired the Nokia brand this year and it's promising to revive the brand in 2017 by debuting new phones. A new report has surfaced claiming that HMD is planning to release at least four more Android smartphones during the 2Q and 3Q of 2017 after the first model is announced in February.

The four new Android-powered Nokia smartphones will have display sizes ranging from 5 inches up to 5.7 inches with WQHD (1440p) and full HD (1080p) resolution, industry sources told DigiTimes. The displays will be provided by several manufacturers including the likes of LG Century technology and Innolux. If DigiTimes's report is accurate, HMD will be releasing a total of five Nokia Android smartphones in 2017.

The first model will be announced in February 2017 during the annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. This is believed to be the rumored Nokia DIC (D1C) which is said to arrive in two variants: one with a 5-inch display with 2GB of RAM and the another with a 5.5-inch display with 3GB of RAM. The 5-inch Nokia DIC will sell for $150, while the larger 5.5-inch model will cost $200.

Earlier this week, an alleged photo of the Nokia D1C was leaked online showing that the device will come with a fingerprint sensor up front. The fingerprint sensor has been absent on the previously leaked sketches of the smartphone, as pointed out Tech Times.

Nokia Leaked photo of the Nokia D1C, or possible the Nokia E1. Photo: Android Headlines

However, the leaked photo has also been reported as being the Nokia E1 and not the Nokia D1C. This could explain the inclusion of the fingerprint sensor. This is also why it's important to take these leaked photos with a healthy dose of skepticism.

As for other hardware specifications, the Nokia D1C is expected to be a mid-range device rumored to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600 chipset. The handset is also said to come with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date Rumors Update: Confirmed S8 Plus Edition to Kill Galaxy Note Phablet Series?

More proofs continue to show up that Samsung intends to make the Galaxy Note history, painful one at that. Latest reports from South Korea claimed that alongside the Galaxy S8 2017 flagship push, Sammy fans can look forward to an S8 Plus unboxing that will boast of a supersized 6-inch screen profile.

And it goes without saying that the giant GS8 will serve as the sequel to the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, likely marking the death of the Note brand but with Samsung not abandoning the phablet segment it invented.

Forbes said the S8 Plus is likely to touchdown with the 5-inch regular GS8 and both devices will make use of the all-screen or bezel-free design approach.

So the next flagships from Samsung are expected with increased screen-to-body radio, which likely means that "both models could be smaller than its predecessors as far as dimensions go, with the home button either expected to be removed, and the fingerprint reader either placed at the rear side of the smartphone or embedded beneath the display," according to WCCFTech.

Both publications point to Korean blog site Naver as source of their information.

In the same report, the rumors of curved OLED panel as the standard GS8 display has been echoed, indicating that Samsung is doing away with the flat screen purportedly to achieve an all-screen effect on both the regular S8 and the S8 Plus.

But the design could prove problematic as analysts express concerns that edged handsets with super-thin build and design are harder to grip on one hand and could lead to accidental drops.

But despite the slim profile of the sequel to the Galaxy S7, the GS8 is said to enjoy longer operating hours as the latest rumors suggested that among the new features to be included with the handset is Beast Mode or increased amount of power juice in a single charge.

The Galaxy S8 is also believed as the first handset to showcase the mighty processing prowess of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC that is touted with 10nanometer FinFET process, which translates to faster and more powerful CPU yet with higher efficiency. SD 835 is also rumored to be paired with 6GB of RAM provision.

Early rumors have indicated that the Galaxy S8 release date will happen ahead of schedule with the intro via the Las Vegas CES 2017 in January or the Barcelona MWC 2017 in February. However, recent reports have indicated Samsung's next Android flagship will not come out until April next year. Source: Yibada

Samsung Galaxy S7 Vs Oppo F1s: See Which Smartphone You Should Buy And Why

The smartphone segment has been on a roll this year with some of the best devices hitting the store shelves. While leading smartphone manufacturers including Samsung, Oppo, Apple, Xiaomi, and LeEco wooed smartphone lovers with their latest flagship offerings this year, it remains to be seen what aces these tech firms have up their sleeves for 2017. Just days away from 2016 coming to a close, here's a brief review comparison on two of the most popular smartphones this year.

While Samsung Galaxy S7 continued to remain as the South Korean tech firm's flagship, thanks to the Note 7 debacle, Oppo was also received very well this year with a series of launches. Let's pick the Oppo F1s, which is Oppo's latest release, for a comparison with Samsung Galaxy S7. Despite the vast price difference between these two smartphones, it makes sense for customers to take all the possible options into consideration.

    Price

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is up for grabs for about $634. The Oppo F1s, on the other hand, bears a price tag of about $280.

    Design

In addition to its classy look, the Samsung Galaxy S7 boasts a compact design that effortlessly fits in the hand. Moreover, the Galaxy S7 has glass on both sides and metal chassis, which gives the device a premium cosmetic appearance. The Galaxy S7 is also dust-resistant and waterproof. On the downside, it is likely to break quite easily, according to International Business Times.

The Oppo F1s is more durable as it is neither slippery like the Galaxy S7 smartphone nor is it too big to handle. It is housed in a full metal body, which boasts a shimmery matte finish on the rear. The F1s is, without an iota of doubt, a remarkable phone and is an apt choice for those who have the patience to use it with care.

    Display

The Oppo F1s sports a 5.5-inch (diagonally) screen coupled with 720p HD resolution, which does not justify the steep price of the handset. For an average user, the lack of details is quite evident, particularly when watching a movie using the phone.

The Galaxy S7, on the other hand, comes with a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED resolution. It features more vibrant and detailed colors than the F1s, which is hardly surprising — considering its colossal jump from 720p to 2K resolution.

    Camera

The Oppo F1s is an ideal smartphone for selfie addicts with a great front camera that is capable of capturing more details. The details on the Galaxy S7's main camera however, are lost. The aperture size for the Oppo F1s' camera is F2.2 and F1.7 for the Galaxy S7. Furthermore, the F1s' camera sensor size is 1/3.06″, while the sensor size for the Galaxy S7 is 1/2.5″, according to PhoneArena.

    Battery

The Oppo F1s packs a 3075 mAh battery, while the Galaxy S7 features a robust 3600 mAh battery. However, the F1s is slightly faster as far as charging time is concerned.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Vs. Oppo F1s: Conclusion

The Galaxy S7 is ideal for those who are looking to use their smartphone for gaming and photography. Despite a low-res display and decent primary camera, the Oppo F1s does not let its users down either as it makes a great savings deal. Source: mobilenapps

New BlackBerry smartphones (made by TCL) officially coming to CES 2017

"We'll unveil more news at CES around our plans, showcasing the legacy of the BlackBerry smartphone brand, while also giving a glimpse into what new BlackBerry smartphones will offer as part of our bold new brand portfolio within [TCL]", Steve Cistulli, head of TCL in North America, said in the release.

TCL Communication has confirmed that the collaboration will announce Blackberry branded smartphone devices, keeping into account the standard of security that the customers and partners of the device manufacturers were used to in the past.

It is worth pointing out here that TCL has semi-exclusive rights to build and distribute BlackBerry devices globally excluding key markets like India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

The DTEK70 will be the last smartphone that BlackBerry releases by itself, as the company recently announced that it's selling its business arm to TCL, the owner of Alcatel-branded phones. While there are no details on what the upcoming BlackBerry handsets will bring, chances are that one of them features a QWERTY keyboard.

The next smartphone that BlackBerry is expected to announce is the DTEK70, now known internally as the Mercury.

BlackBerry shut down its hardware division earlier this year and simultaneously stopped all hardware-related research and development activities due to rapidly depleting revenues.

After BlackBerry's failed attempt with Android with its PRIV model, the company launched DTEK50, and then the DTEK60 with a bigger screen.

According to Android Headlines, analysts are still not sure when the device will be revealed and what name it will commercially use. Blackberry is apparently betting on the new partnership with China's TCL to compete with smartphones produce by Apple and Samsung. That phrasing makes it sound not so much like the evolutionary first will be on the new phones, but will be something announced alongside them.

Taiwan market: Smartphone shipments to reach 8-8.5 million units in 2017

Taiwan market: Smartphone shipments to reach 8-8.5 million units in 2017

Max Wang, Taipei; Steve Shen, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 21 December 2016]

Shipments of smartphones in the Taiwan market in 2017 are expected to be flat on year, totaling about at 8-8.5 million units, according to sources from local retail channels.

Since the strategy of promoting smartphones by highlighting product and technology differentiation has increasingly become less effective, some international brands have shifted their focus to promoting brand image as a means to ramp up sales in the local market, indicated the sources.

For example, Sony Mobile has been focusing on promotion of high-end models counting on a relatively high brand loyalty to its products by local consumers, said the sources.

While offering upgrades for interfaces and memory capacity for its existing models, Samsung Electronics has been adding more sales outlets to promote its products, added the sources.

However, Asustek Computer is expected to continue to release models with high price/performance ratios in a bid to compete with local rival HTC and other China-based brands, including Oppo, Huawei and Xiaomi Technology.

Meanwhile, the ratio of entry-level to mid-range models to total smartphone shipments in the local market is expected to continue to rise in 2017, up from the current level of 45%, the sources estimated.

MVR Global To Release Cross-Platform VR Headset in 2017

Normally, when you fail at a Kickstarter campaign, it's the end of the road for you. Sometimes, however, either because of not taking the hint or really believing, companies will continue with their dream. This is the case with MVR Global, a British VR company. Even though they failed their Kickstarter, they have carried on with their goal of releasing a cross-platform VR headset in 2017.

    Who is MVR Global?

MVR Global was founded by brothers Sachin and Samir Patel in 2012. In 2015 they were joined by Koonal Patel and Sachin Varland. In 2016, MVR Global published a Kickstarter campaign for their product, the MVR Ascend. It promises a great deal, mainly that it is cross-platform. Cross-platform, as in everything from mobile to PC, to consoles are supported with the headset. How the headset can achieve this isn't clear, but according to their main site and Kickstarter page they have patent-pending technology which enables this cross-play. The Kickstarter also promised to include specialised controllers of your choice.

MVR Global promised a lot in their kickstart, but they only managed to raise £15,000, about 10% of their goal. Their last update reads: "In just over an hour our Kickstarter campaign will end. Unfortunately, it did not go the way we wanted, and we are quite disappointed and surprised at the result, especially considering the good press reviews we had.

"There are some factors we feel contributed to this outcome, but to dwell on these issues would only make this situation harder to contemplate. So we are not going to dwell on this, we are not going to let this Kickstarter campaign drag us down, and we will endeavour to bring the Ascend to market. We all know that Kickstarter in no way represents the views of the whole consumer universe, and so do professional investors. We have some these investors lined up that believe in the product as much as we do and we are confident that we will find others and with their combined help, bring the MVR Ascend to reality (pun intended!)"

    What is MVR Ascend

Thanks to eleventh-hour investors, it seems that we will see the MVR Ascend on the market. So what exactly does it do? It's a headset which doesn't look too different from existing models. The obvious difference is a lack of a cable, which was a major selling point. There is also a flip-up front to slide your smartphone into. In fact, that is how you do all of your VR entertainment with this headset. When you're not using your phone, MVR has their own special screen which streams from whichever source you choose. If you have an iPhone, you need to use this screen, because MVR Global's app is not compatible with that phone at this time.

There are also built-in headphones, rather than having to awkwardly slot your own over the top. Whether the headphones are any good is unknown, but you can't swap them. MVR also have this interesting sensor which they promise mimics any input you select. However, the patent for this technology is still awaiting approval.

One final promise to note is that MVR says that all current XBox and PS4 games can be played in VR. Now, this is a bit of a cheat, because it involves the mapping of the right analogue stick to your head. However, it's probable that when real VR titles start pouring in the MVR can support these as well.

MVR Global put the price of their product on Kickstarter at S$357 for the headset with a PS4 controller. For the Xbox 1 Controller, the price was put at S$484. The price bump is down to the inclusion of MVR's streaming screen because you can stream PS4 content to your Android phone. If you wanted both controllers, the price was an amazing S$700, which comes with two controllers and ships worldwide. By contrast, the HTC Vive is still sitting at over S$1300. Currently, the headsets are not available for pre-order, but you can sign up on their website here.

Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 Release Date Rumors Run Rampant, Hinting A MWC 2017 Launch

#MicrosoftSurface #SurfacePhone – Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 Release Date Rumors Run Rampant, Hinting A MWC 2017 Launch : Looks like a Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 release is just around the corner with CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2017 in January being the most likely release date window. Other sources hazard a guess that Microsoft will unveil the oft-rumored smartphone at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2017.

Interestingly, Microsoft has launched a web page where important MWC visitors and partners can arrange a meeting with the company during the upcoming mobile industry gathering, which is slated to take place in Barcelona from Feb. 27 to March 2, 2017.

The rumor mill is now rife with all sorts of speculations surrounding the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 release date. Meanwhile, tech pundits suggest that Microsoft is not ready to unveil the new Surface Phone yet and will just shed more light on the company's progress in bringing the much-awaited device.

Despite riding high on the success of its Surface Pro line, Microsoft has been unable to penetrate in the global smartphone market. This failure can largely be attributed to the lack of a developer's favored Android and iOS operating systems on its devices.

However, it looks like things are likely to change in 2017 with Windows Phone-based smartphones taking center stage. Microsoft, in collaboration with Qualcomm, recently announced plans to enable a full Windows 10 support to devices powered by the Snapdragon processors.

Trotted out as the first ARM-based processors, these will enable users to run full desktop apps on both PCs and phones. There is also a strong possibility that the company wants to just discuss the developments with partners at the event, still keeping the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 under wraps, according to TrustedReviews.

Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 Specs & Features

Deemed as an iPhone killer by zealous tech buffs, the new Surface Phone is expected to boast an array of jaw-dropping specs and features such as Snapdragon 835, a mammoth 6GB of RAM, and Windows 10 Mobile Redstone.

Another highly touted feature of the upcoming smartphone is Continuum, which is basically a productivity tool that's capable of transforming a phone into a big-screen projector. Here's how it works:

In order to see content and apps on a larger screen, users need a dock or adapter that can be connected to a monitor or a TV. Once connected, users can see their content and browse through their apps on a larger screen, according to a blog post on Microsoft's official website.

Moreover, the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 is expected to feature Quick Charge 4.0 for faster charging. There's also hearsay that Microsoft will oust some popular Nokia Lumia features. Source: mobilenapps

Samsung Galaxy S8 could be the first smartphone to come with Bluetooth 5.0 support

The Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone is turning out to be one of the best smartphones ever. As of now, all the rumors points towards a very interesting device with very high-end specs along with a revolutionary design. Yesterday we saw that the company maybe borrowing some display tech from the Note 7 phablet which was launched a couple of months back and pulled back a few days later as well. While that is a good thing for them to do, we hope that the Galaxy S8s also won't start exploding out in the wild. With all that said, the new reports claims that this upcoming beast of a smartphone could be the first ever smartphone to support Bluetooth 5.0 as well.

Last week, the final specifications for the next generation Bluetooth 5 standard was released by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). When you compare the current Bluetooth 4.2 with the Bluetooth 5.0, you will find out that the wireless range in ideal conditions would increase upto four times. And also the wireless transmission speeds will double up compared to the current standard. And yes, it is a new standard, expect it to be more secure, stable and power efficient as well. While this might not be all that exciting for most people, but this could mean that all the wearable devices, connected home systems, etc. will be way better in the future.

At the time of the release of the new specifications, Bluetooth SIG also said that new products with the support for Bluetooth 5.0 are coming soon at the earliest of 2-3 months. And well, just like they said, it has been reported that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone could be the first ever device to support this new technology. Yes, indeed this doesn't come as a surprise since we all know that this new Bluetooth 5.0 will be pretty much supported by all the flagships in 2017. And of course, the Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone being the most ambitious device for the company, at least from what it looks like, we can surely expect this to happen.

If the news of the support for Bluetooth 5.0 is not having you excited by now for this upcoming flagship from the company, then be informed that this is expected to come in two variants and both of them will have curved-edge display on the front and there is possibility of at least of them to have a bezel-less design just like the Mi MIX smartphone by Xiaomi. It also looks like it will sport the latest and the greatest Snapdragon 835 chipset and will come with 6GB+ RAM. With that said, let's just try not to keep our hopes high and just wait till February 26th until they make it official in Barcelona. If you are interested in this device, then be sure to stay tuned to PhoneRadar for details on the same.

Over 100,000 Smartphones Get Damaged by Liquids Every Day in Western Europe, Making Water Resistant Smartphones a Fast Growing Segment, says IDC

    Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

    15 Dec 2016

London, December 15, 2016 – Smartphones offering resistance against water damage (and other liquids) grew 45.2% year on year in the first nine months of 2016 in Western Europe, while shipments of non-water–resistant smartphones declined 17% in the same period. Water resistant smartphones reached 22.5 million units in the period to represent 23% of the total number of smartphones shipped in 2016 to date, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) European Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. The strong growth in this segment was supported by the success of Samsung and Huawei devices offering this feature and by the recently launched iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, both offering IP67.

Liquid damage is the second-largest cause of damaged smartphones in the world, representing 35% of all devices repaired. This results in significant costs to end users, phone manufacturers, carriers, retailers, and the environment in general. IDC estimates that over 100,000 smartphones get damaged by water or other liquids every day in Western Europe. The impact of liquids is estimated to be worth in excess of $10.7 billion a year in the region.

"Accidental damage is responsible for 95% of smartphone failures. While many manufacturers try to compete through lower price points, others differentiate by improving the user experience with screen durability and resistance to liquids, the two most common causes for smartphone damage," said Francisco Jeronimo, European mobile devices research director at IDC. "Nowadays, smartphones are used throughout the day, but with increasing usage comes a greater risk of accidents, such as dropping the device on the floor or into water. With the advance of nano-technology and better industrial design, liquid damage is a problem that should no longer exist."

Microsoft Surface Phone Release Date: 2017 Launch At MWC Confirmed? Features Similar To Lumia Phones?

#Microsoft #LumiaPhone – Microsoft Surface Phone Release Date: 2017 Launch At MWC Confirmed? Features Similar To Lumia Phones? : Microsoft's smartphone family, the Lumia lineup, is not doing quite well these days, but that doesn't mean that the Redmond-based tech giant isn't cooking up something. Rumor has it that the Microsoft Surface Phone 2016 is really happening and it could be out sometime in 2017. It is also believed to be the saving grace of the company.

Microsoft has already done a great job with the successful Surface laptops. If rumors are anything to go by, the company might already be equipped to join the competitive smartphone market. Latest rumors claimed that there is evidence proving that Microsoft is collaborating with HP to create the new Microsoft Surface Phone 2016 that runs on a Windows 10 OS.

Reports also mentioned that the Microsoft Surface Phone 2016 may share similar features as Windows-powered Lumia handsets. That said, the new smartphone could have the remarkable features of the Lumia lineup, which include Glance, and the ClearBlack display. WCCFTech also reported about the possibility of a Snapdragon 830 chipset on board the new Microsoft Surface Phone.

Given that Microsoft Surface Phone 2016 could be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor, it is expected to be power-efficient. In addition, the device is expected to have beefed up specs that should challenge today's big names in the smartphone industry. Apart from impressive specs, the Surface Phone is also expected to have more improved security and productivity features.

As for the release date, Microsoft Surface Phone 2016 is rumored to launch sometime in 2017. Several reports are betting on the Mobile World Congress 2017 as the venue for the smartphone launch. In that case, the device could be unveiled sometime in February next year. Furthermore, it is also rumored that the new Surface smartphone will share the spotlight with another one of Microsoft's hotly anticipated device, the Surface Pro 5.

While news of Microsoft Surface Phone 2016 release date, specs, and features may get Windows fans excited, it should be noted that they haven't been confirmed. The company has yet to make official announcement about the device. For now, it's best to take the reports with a grain of salt. Source: gamenguide

Ausdroid’s 2016 Gift Guide – Smartphones and Tablets

Welcome to the Ausdroid 2016 Christmas Gift Guide. This year we've split our usual long list into a couple of categories for you to refer to. Starting off the Christmas Gift Guide series is Phones and Tablets.

Obviously the most expensive devices you'll use Android on are phones and tablets, but they're also the most important. We've addressed most price points for the range of devices, we've got a recommendation if you're starting at the bottom end of the market, as well as if you're heading right to the top.

    Phones Oppo F1s

The Oppo F1s represents an entry level device at a great price for almost anyone loo king for a good phone. It's not even hampered very much by a poor spec list, it's literally a great handset that runs well for a good price.

There's two ways to get yourself an Oppo F1s, depending on which colour you want and if you wish to purchase a device unlocked to use on the carrier of your choice, or if you're ok with using the Optus network.

Outright, the Oppo F1s will cost around $318 from places like JB HiFi where it's available in Gold and Grey unlocked and ready to use on any Australian network. If you're wanting to save a few dollars, you can also get the Oppo F1s as a pre-paid device from Optus for $259, which will get you a Selfie Stick as a bonus, though it's only available in Grey.

The Oppo F1s impressed Phil in his review back in October with great battery life, impressive selife camera and of course that great pricing. There are some drawbacks with performance however so it's not all sunshine and roses. That said, it's a solid device and Oppo has been pretty good with their software updates so it's a good choice for a budget range Christmas present.

    Axon 7

Next up, we're getting into the slightly higher end of the market with the surprise 'flagship' phone from ZTE. Launched earlier this year, ZTE Australia are still rolling this bad boy out with online sales on their Australian website but retail sales are expected to start next year. At $699, it's not the cheapest, but it's certainly not the most expensive device either.

The Axon 7 made a splash when it launched with ZTE claiming it as the first 'DayDream' ready handset to be announced. The phone will need a Nougat update for that functionality to happen, but ZTE have got the rest of the hardware just sitting waiting and from all accounts, Nougat is all but a certainty for this handset.ZTE have been building their brand in Australia for some time now, and it's paying off in spades, the interest in the Axon 7 has been an eye opener and for good reason it seems to be a great phone. Unfortunately we're still waiting on our review unit, but the initial impressions from customers seem positive.

If you want to get your hands on one for someone in time for Christmas, check out their website and see how you go.

    HTC 10

As far as the last few years are concerned, HTC hasn't had the best ones really when it comes to launching phones. The HTC One line got a little stale, but when they dropped the 'One' branding and announced the HTC 10, a little spark of interest jumped back up in the hearts and minds of HTC fans around the world – and when it launched, they had good reason to celebrate, it's a return to form for HTC.

The HTC 10 returns to HTC's great design roots with a more refined look, it also fixes a number of issues that the HTC One M9 had last year, primarily the camera. The camera is finally great, the phone runs smoothly and it's also very well priced.

HTC has been progressively dropping the price on the HTC 10 to the point where without even shopping around very much you can pick one up for around $700 from one of the smaller guys, or $750-$800 if you stick with Kogan or JB HiFi.

All up, the HTC 10 is a solid device, it's in line for a Nougat update at some stage and well, it just looks the business. Anyone finding one of these delightfully designed handsets under the tree this Christmas will be well pleased.

    Pixel XL

In a year that saw the traditional 'Big' handset we recommended actually removed from sale, Google happened to jump in with the best device they've ever launched…the Pixel XL.

It's coming at the back of our recommendations, because at $1,269 it's not the cheapest phone on the market…but in our opinion it's the smartphone of the year. We've gone with the XL version of the PIxel (but really if you prefer the smaller the size you can't go wrong with a Pixel), as it offers the larger battery, bigger (and more pixel dense) screen and well, it fills that Note shaped hole in everyone's life this Christmas.

The Pixel XL sports a best in class camera, it's got the best processor on the market and it also has a bunch of Android exclusive features built-in like Google Assistant which is being constantly refined by Google, it has Night Mode, a god send for anyone wanting to get some shut-eye and it has unlimited photo-storage at full resolution in Google Photos.

The Pixel (XL) is also DayDream VR compatible and though it's early days, that platform shows a lot of promise. The PIxel XL with its more pixel dense QHD resolution is also more suited for VR so you will see things a little more clearly in those virtual apps.

The design is a little pedestrian, but as a first year release – this is Pixel, not Nexus remember – the Pixel phones are the best Android experience you can give to someone, so if you want to give someone a good experience of Android, then the Pixel XL is our pick this year.

You can get one from Telstra, but if you want it from the source, the Google Store is selling them as well online.

    Tablets

Ahh, Tablets. Are they really still a thing? Well, they are….and they aren't. But the attraction of a good tablet can't be denied, the attraction of a decently priced larger screen media consumption device is also attractive so we're always looking at what's available. Sadly in Australia the Google Pixel C is sold out on the Google Store, Asus still hasn't launched their latest tablet, and Samsung's A series tablets are over-priced (IMHO) for what they offer, so what else is around?

The answer is Lenovo! Lenovo has a great range of decently priced tablet options on the market, they also have another option in the YogaBook which will work as a tablet as well as a more traditional clamshell style productivity device – though with a few extras thrown in.

    Lenovo Tab 3 8" and 10"

But back to those tablets, the Yoga Tab 3 8" and 10" are getting a little long in the tooth right now, but the Tab 3 series are still solid contenders for great media consumption devices.

Powered by Mediatek processors, the tablets aren't the most powerful of beasts and in fact with only 1GB of RAM on the 8" model, you'll be probably only wanting to do the basics on that one. They do both come with support for Dolby Atmos sound, so if you're into a great sound experience they can certainly pump out some great audio.

The pricing is pretty decent, the Lenovo Tab 3 8" goes for $219 while the 10" model, which has better screen resolution, larger battery and of course more RAM goes for $399, and you can even get some better deals if you shop around.

    Lenovo YogaBook

My pick for a tablet this year though is definitely the Lenovo YogaBook. It's twin-panel setup is still thin enough in tablet mode to be light and easy to handle by even children, and it offers the functionality of a much higher end device. It also offers anyone with a business or artistic use case a highly accurate stylus experience on the Create Pad panel.

The software included on the YogaBook has a focus on productivity and pursuits more in line with those of an artistic nature, but they're easy to use and quite functional. If you've ever had to take handwritten notes and transcribe them into a computer later the YogaBook with its character recognition is a gift from the heavens. Not only is the standard software load pretty greta, Lenovo has improved on the YogaBook since the first release as well, which shows Lenovo is committed to this platform.

Lenovo has created a wonderfully designed device with the YogaBook. It's also quite well priced at $799 running Android but it's packed full of specs and runs like a dream.

If you're looking for a gift for a productivity, or Artistic focused person in your life then the Lenovo YogaBook is a very good suggestion. You can check them out on the Lenovo website and order from there.

So that's our 2-cents worth on what you should be looking at this year for Christmas, there's a lot to check over and it comes down to price and what the person you're buying for really wants. Sound them out, see what clicks and go from there – I certainly wouldn't be upset by any of these being under my Christmas tree come December 25th.

'Super Mario Run' Game Updates 2016: Release Date, Price, Gameplay, Demo, And More! Download The App For Free!

Super Mario Run gameplay demo(Photo: iJustine/YouTubeScreenshot/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqu8yDC1km4)

Good News! Everyone can now play the beloved childhood game that carries lots of memories of most gamer's childhood. This time around, Nintendo is launching its first smartphone game, "Super Mario Run."

According to USA Today, the designer who brought Mario to life, Shigeru Miyamoto, would design the game much easier than how it was used to play. Instead of focusing on the control pad, you would just focus on Mario's jumping. This idea was sparked by concerns about the game being too complex and that the original Super Mario Bros. was best known for its user-friendly interface.

Super Mario Run will be free to download, as per CNET, but in-app purchases are required to unlock the following levels after the first four. The unlock costs $9.99, £7.99 or AU$14.99 to get the full experience. The game is projected to make $71 million USD worldwide making the third place for first-month top earners behind Pokemon Go with $143 million USD and Clash Royale $107 million USD.

The game is said to feature three modes, which are World Tour, Toad Rally, and Kingdom Builder. The World Tour contains similar features similar to Super Mario games and the only difference is how the character is moved. In Toad Rally, players are able to compete with other players to gain approval from Toads. These Toads will then be able to live in the player's personal Mushroom Kingdom, personalized in the Kingdom Builder. These game modes according to Miyamoto are designed in a way where the three phases work together.

Instead of having their first experience on a dedicated video game device, most kids uses smartphones as a medium to play video games. "(The game) was less about simply bringing the same experience to iPhone," Miyamoto says. "Instead, it was about focusing on who is that casual player on an iPhone and what's an appropriately casual Mario (game) they can enjoy."

Video game apps are stepping up their game to compete in the rankings, the gaming app "Clash of Clans" recently announced their biggest update yet as well as Niantic's "Pokemon Go". Super Mario Run is set to launch on the iPhone and iPad this coming Dec. 15 and soon on Android devices.

Samsung Announces Update That Will Brick All Galaxy Note 7 Devices in America, Verizon Refuses to Release It

Samsung has announced an update that will brick all Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in America. The Galaxy 7 smartphone was discontinued and recalled for being a fire hazard.

Consumer safety remains our highest priority and we've had overwhelming participation in the U.S. Note7 Refund and Exchange Program so far, with more than 93 percent of all recalled Galaxy Note7 devices returned. To further increase participation, a software update will be released starting on December 19th that will prevent U.S. Galaxy Note7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices. If you have not yet returned your device, you should immediately power it down and contact your carrier to obtain a refund or exchange.

While Samsung thinks that bricking all Galaxy Note 7 devices is in the best interests of safety, not all carriers agree. Verizon is refusing to push the update out of concern for customers.

Today, Samsung announced an update to the Galaxy Note 7 that would stop the smartphone from charging, rendering it useless unless attached to a power charger. Verizon will not be taking part in this update because of the added risk this could pose to Galaxy Note 7 users that do not have another device to switch to. We will not push a software upgrade that will eliminate the ability for the Note 7 to work as a mobile device in the heart of the holiday travel season. We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders or medical professionals in an emergency situation.

Sprint is planning to wait until after the holidays and will release the update on January 8th. AT&T is waiting until January 5th and T-Mobile will push the update on December 27th.

If you have a Galaxy Note 7, we strongly recommend you power it down and get rid of it as soon as possible.

Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom Spotted on TENAA with Dual-Rear Camera, Early 2017 Release Possible

Asus, the Taiwanese smartphone giant, unveiled their Zenfone 3 series of smartphones at their Z3NVOLUTION event back in May 2016. The company has released a good number of phones in the same series including the Zenfone 3 Laser and Zenfone 3 Max.

However, it looks like the company isn't done yet. A new Asus smartphone with the model number Z01HDA is spotted on the Chinese certification site, TENAA. However, going by the camera setup, the smartphone seems to be the Zenfone 3 Zoom.

But, there is no confirmation on the megapixel count of the dual camera. One source suggests that both the cameras are of 16MP and the other indicates that one will be of 16MP sensor and the other one will be of 13MP. To recall, the Asus Zenfone Zoom came out with special optical zoom capabilities, and we are expecting the same with the Zenfone 3 Zoom as well.

The TENAA listing also revealed the purported specifications of the phone. The Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display with a curved 2.5D glass on top of it. Having said that, the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset will power the Zenfone 3 Zoom as well. But, there is some confusion regarding the RAM on this device as the listing suggests three variants of the phone with 2GB/3GB/4GB of RAM along with 16GB/32GB/64GB of internal storage.

Also, the smartphone will be backed by a large 4850mAh battery and boots Android Marshmallow based Zen UI out-of-the-box. Currently, there are no rumors regarding the release date of this smartphone, but do make a note that Asus is holding an event at the CES 2017, where the Zenfone 3 Zoom is expected to be unveiled.

UMi Z will be the first Smartphone come with MediaTek Helio X27

A few days back we have seen MediaTek unveiling its new chipsets which were added to the Helio family. The Taiwanese giant named them as X20-X23 and X27 and now UMi Z is going to be the first smartphone to come with Helio X27. According to the press release, the device is expected to come in December but is nothing about the specifications and pricing is known yet.

Coming to Mediatek Helio X27 (MT6797X) sports a tri-cluster deca-core design like the X2x predecessors, but the maximum frequency is up to 2.6 GHz on the most powerful ARM Cortex A-72 cluster. The frequency is also bumped for the Mali-T880MP4 GPU up to 875MHz, and it has MiraVision EnergySmart Screen technology to enhance power efficiency and upgraded Imagiq ISP for camera processing adding built-in 3D depth engine for depth of field processing and supports mono sensor.

The multiple sensor designs will be able to capture three times the light compared to the normal single sensor. There is also an MT6300 Envelope tracking module that will complement MediaTek's CAT-6 modem and the voltage supplied to the RF power amplifier uses continual and fine-grained voltage adjustments to increase the amplifier efficiency. This reduces the heat generated and can save up to 20 percent current at the maximum power level.

Well, nothing is confirmed yet by the company yet, so we need to take this with a pinch of salt. UMi is making a device to be unveiled in December and it could be UMi Z. Top 5 Alcatel Idol 3 Smartphone Problems & How To Fix them

Alcatel is known to almost all the Android lovers as this manufacturer release a wide variety of smartphones at regular intervals. It equips latest features in their devices and ensures high-specifications at an affordable price. Now everyone is waiting for the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4 and Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4S smartphones with huge expectations.

Many Android lovers bought Alcatel Idol 3 smartphone soon after its launch and are very happy with its 5.5-inch display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor. But due to certain uses, the users seem to face few common issues on the phone, and we are here to fix those issues. We made few workouts on the phone and found easy solutions for all the issues. So, relax and sit back, and go through the below solutions to fix your issues.

    1. Over-Heating Issue

Problem – Well, in every Android device, users have to face this issue, and there could be various reasons behind this. So, we found few precautionary measures which when followed will reduce the risk of over-heating of the device.

Solution – To avoid the issue of over-heating, first of all, remove all the battery-draining apps present in the device. Mostly bloatware causes this issue and so uninstall/disable the pre-installed apps. Also, remove the useless apps that are downloaded by you as they consume the space and have an indirect effect on the performance of the phone.

Next, remove the widgets and Live Wallpapers from the device. Widgets and live wallpapers will over-load the processor resulting in over-heating of the device. So, we advise you to remove all such things from the device to keep the device safer.

    2. Lag in performance

Problem – Another common issue that is troubling Alcatel Idol 3 users is the lag in the device performance. The lag issue will arise due to many possibilities and so by taking few precautions we can fasten the phones performance by avoiding the lag.

Solution – To avoid the lag issue, first of all, make sure that your device is updated with the latest software as they can fix the minor issues in the phone. Next, enable the 'Developer Options' by tapping few times on 'Build Number' under 'Settings>About Phone'. Now, open the developer options under settings and then find out animation scale options. Next, turn the animation setting off or reduce them to 0.5x to enable the faster performance.

Now, removed the cache stored in the apps by tapping on 'Clear Cache' button after opening each app from the app manager. Once you are done, the phone should be free from the lag issue. If not go for wipe cache partition. To do so, turn off the device and hold volume up and power button at the same time. Keep holding the volume up button until you see the menu. Now choose 'English' (use volume buttons for navigation and power button for confirming the selection). So, now select and confirm 'Wipe Cache Partition' and once the process is done go for 'Reboot system now.'

By now, the problem should get resolved and if not perform the factory reset. The entire data gets erased from the device after performing the factory reset and so take a prior backup before proceeding. Once the backup is done, then turn off the device and enter into recovery mode as explained above. Now, select and confirm 'wipe data/factory reset' and 'Yes – delete all user data.' That's all; now your phone will be new and should be free from the lag issue.

    3. Poor battery life

Problem – It seems like battery life is also become a major concern for the Alcatel Idol 3 users as many reported that the device is draining faster. So, we made few workouts with the issue and found simple solutions to improve the battery life.

Solution – As explained in the solution 1, remove the bloatware, useless apps, widgets and live wallpapers from the phone as they consume more amount of the battery. While charging the device, make use of original battery chargers so as to experience the real-power of battery and avoid charging by connecting to PC or laptops.

Always make sure to turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, data and GPS options whenever not in use as they too eat away the battery. If the battery is draining rapidly even after you have taken all the precautions, then replace it with a new one.

    4. Dialer Issue

Problem – Few users reported that they are facing an issue with the dialer of the phone. They stated that they are unable to use the dialer for the first time, and it is working only after re-dial. Well, with few workouts you can solve this issue.

Solution – Well, this issue has come to limelight in the devices which got updated to new software. Only a few users reported about this issue, and so it may be a problem with the software update which can be resolve by another update or by re-installing the same update properly.

Also, try to remove the app cache and perform wipe-cache partition as explained in the solution 2. If the problem persists, then perform the factory reset of the device as mentioned in the solution two as this should resolve the issue.

    5. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection issue

Problem – Another problem that is seen in most Android devices is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issue. But with simple workouts, this can be resolved.

Solution – Always make sure that you are attempting to connect the proper Wi-Fi. Now, restart the device and re-connect to the network. If it fails, then restart the router and try, For Bluetooth error, try to remove all the existing paired devices from the phone and restart the device. Now start pairing the device and the issue will get resolved.

Note – Software updates contain fixes for minor bugs and enhancements to improve the device performance. So, always make sure to update your device to the official releases of software. If you didn't receive any notification about the software update, then you have to check it manually by opening 'Settings>About Phone.' If available then download and install the same.

In case if you have any other issues with your Alcatel Idol 3 smartphone then feel free to write us down in the comments section below as we try to resolve those issues for you.

Speed up the performance of Alcatel Idol 3 smartphone.

Apple iPhone 8: All the rumors on specs, release date, design and price

The iPhone 7 is easily one of the best phones of 2016. It delivers peppy performance, more storage capacity than its predecessors, water resistance, a resilient battery, exceptional cameras (especially the iPhone 7 Plus model) and a host of other terrific features. But despite CEO Tim Cook's prerelease promise that it would provide "things we can't live without," Apple's iPhone 7 is an incremental upgrade. The 2016 phone is more of an evolutionary step rather than a revolutionary leap. In fact, with the omission of a headphone jack, one could argue that the iPhone 7 lacks a thing some of us can't live without.

Still, this is just small fries compared to the early rumors that point to next year's iPhone -- the one marking the 10th anniversary of the very first iPhone ever -- as the revolutionary, no-holds-barred model that will once again push the boundaries of what your phone can do for you. Expect the big reveal in the fall of 2017 (early September, if Apple sticks to its usual cycle). Until then, we'll keep track of the rumor frenzy below.

    Announcement and release dates

For years, Apple stuck to a pretty regular schedule, reserving major design changes for even-numbered years and leaving lesser "S phone" refreshes for odd-numbered years. So we were due for a total redesign in 2016 but instead we got the iPhone SE -- a minor, midcycle update with particularly modest refinements on the iPhone 5S design -- and the iPhone 7 -- a meaty update under the hood, but with no real redesign.

    The iPhone 7.

    James Martin/CNET

Except for the missing headphone jack, it looks identical to an iPhone 6 and 6S. All of this has fueled widespread expectation that Apple will forgo the midcycle "S" refresh in 2017, and offer up a major update -- the "iPhone 8," presumably -- in September 2017.

    What's in store

After a series of new iPhone devices featuring only minor external tweaks, it's reasonable to wonder if Apple's designers have hit a wall. Have we reached the boundaries of smartphone design, with future innovations confined to bumps in processor speed and battery efficiency? Or do the designers in Cupertino have a dramatic redesign up their collective sleeve for the iPhone 8?

Other companies have taken their phones in some novel directions. Apple's archrival, Samsung, which builds its phones around Google's Android mobile software, has started using curved glass in its designs, giving users an "Edge" where they can read quick notific ations. Motorola's Moto Z and Moto Z Force phones have magnetic connections for attachable back plates, cases and modules. LG has toyed with a modular phone concept; its G5 features add-on modules that boost audio and extend battery life.

    Chassis

Business Insider has reported that Apple is already developing hardware for the iPhone 8 at an office in Israel, with the focus on a design that's "different."

Since the run-up to the introduction of the iPhone 7, there have been rumors about the possibility of an edge-to-edge display. And in November 2016, The Wall Street Journal reported that the next generation could include a curved OLED screen -- a possibility raised by many others as well.

The WSJ also reported that Apple is considering multiple variations of the next model, so anything is possible. Case in point: there have been murmurs about a ceramic body, already seen on the premium Apple Watch Series 2, which the company says is four times tougher than stainless steel.

    Apple's ceramic Watch Series 2.

    Home button

Apple is already making changes to its signature home button. On the iPhone 7, that meant a new, solid-state button that you don't click down. Instead, you rest your finger on top and the phone shivers with haptic feedback to let you know the button's working. (If it stops working, iOS 1 0 surfaces a temporary on-screen Home button.)

Apple could very well experiment with this in future devices. There are rumors (like by Japanese Mac blog Macotakara) that its new iPad tablets could ditch the home button and become almost bezel-less when they hit, possibly in early 2017.

Maybe it'll even become invisible. In 2015, Apple filed a patent for a transparent fingerprint sensor embedded into a smartphone display. Maybe that's something we'll see in 2017. With the iPhone 7's new solid-state button, that pressure-sensitive screen and more Siri skills, Apple could decide we just don't need a physical home button anymore. Removing it would also let Apple slim down the top and bottom bezels as well as squeeze a larger screen into the same size body -- so long as it could integrate that Touch ID sensor.

    Wireless charging?

Samsung does it, and Apple is starting to, too. The wireless AirPods headphones may have been just the beginning. Next year's iPhone could do away with the last physical wire: the Lightning cable needed for charging. Earlier this year, Barclays analyst Mark Moskowitz predicted that Apple would reserve this innovation for the iPhone 8; The Verge reported that Apple has been staffing up on wireless-charging experts; and in November, Nikkei Asian Review reported that Foxconn, one of Apple's main manufacturing partners, is making wireless charging modules for the 2017 iPhone. Most recently, veteran Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that the forthcoming 4.7-inch iPhone will come equipped with wireless charging.

The Apple Watch already uses a form of wireless charging. And the Qi standard, embraced by the likes of Samsung, already drives wireless charging stations in thousands of public spaces and 50 models of cars. Those stations are just waiting for an iPhone.

Samsung has made phones with slightly curved faces before, but we haven't seen anything like the Samsung Galaxy Round, which bends the actual AMOLED display technology lengthwise beneath the glass.

    Sarah Tew/CNET Cameras

Dual-lens cameras like the one found in the iPhone 7 Plus and other phones aren't just for zoom photos. Two cameras mean depth sensing, 3D and a lot more -- like enabling cool things with augmented reality.

Apple CEO Tim Cook keeps talking up the feature, which can place virtual things in your real-world view, saying it's more important than virtual reality, which immerses you completely in a digital world. It's possible that the next iPhone (or maybe an "iPhone 8 Plus") might have a dual-lens camera that could scan the world and overlay 3D objects onto it with high accuracy.

    Display

For a long time, rumors suggested that Apple would give the iPhone a sapphire display, which would offer a higher degree of scratch- and shatter-resistance than the current models' Gorilla Glass. Makes sense, since Apple already uses the material on the higher-end Apple Watch. Sapphire is expensive, though, and Apple won't want to tremendously raise prices in its base model phone. There's definitely a question mark hanging over this one.

It's also being said that the iPhone will become curved. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo at KGI Securities has predicted that Apple will introduce a new curved AMOLED display in 2017. That'd be a big change from the LCD screens in today's iPhones -- AMOLED is thinner, lighter, more flexible, and more power efficient. And in November, Sharp President Tai Jeng-wu mentioned that the next iPhone would have this OLED screen; of course, Apple hasn't confirmed it.

With months to go before an official announcement, we'll keep an eye on how the iPhone 7's static "button," dual-lens Plus camera and absent headphone jack may have set the stage for even bigger changes ahead.
