As Apple's annual media event draws near, a new rumor has surfaced on Tuesday, saying that the company's next-generation Apple iPhone 7 will be as thin as the current iPod Touch, between 6mm and 6.5mm thick, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities.

Sources who are privy to Apple's plans claim that the iPhone 7 will likely use the 7000 series aluminium which was used in its Apple Watch. It was also said that Apple's next generation iPhone will have the same Force Touch technology, 9to5Mac reported.

"As such, this suggests that Apple will not move to glass screen technology, as suggested by a previous rumor, and instead stick to in-cell panels. In-cell panels have limitations on maximum screen resolution, but KGI does not see Apple wanting to go to 4K resolution displays for iPhones anytime soon. One major advantage of in-cell screen technology over other options is thinness - by integrating the touchscreen sensors into the LCD, maximum thinness can be achieved. This will help in achieving the 6-6.5mm thickness Apple apparently wants for the iPhone 7," the report said.

However, according to Daily Mail UK, thinner devices such as the upcoming iPhone 7 is potentially vulnerable to being broken. It can be recalled that prior to the official launch of iPhone 6 Plus, it was heavily criticized due to its "bending" issue.

Since the "bendgate" fiasco, Apple is said to use stronger materials for its next-generation iPhones. Thus, some of the company's models have now used the 7000 series aluminium material. It was said that using the aluminium will eventually make the next iPhone model 60 percent harder compared to the iPhone 6 model.

Techly reports that the company is also likely to introduce new screens that consume less power. Therefore, there's a possibility that it will no longer use the same battery to provide extended use for the upcoming devices. The report also suggests that the smartphone's thinner design would also mean less reinforcement which reportedly could result in the bending issue again.
