Microsoft Releases Third Quarter Earnings With Segment Revenue Growth

This correlates with Gartner's smartphone statistics for the last quarter of a year ago, where it noted that Microsoft's Windows Phones only managed to claim 1.1% market share, and sold only 4.3 million phones.

Despite increased revenues and income, the company saw its shares fall after it missed earnings targets. Microsoft sold just 2.3 million Lumia phones during its latest quarter.

The company reported earnings of $3.8 billion, or 47 cents a share, for the third quarter on sales of $20.5 billion. "As these organizations turn to us, we're seeing momentum across Microsoft's cloud services and with Windows 10", said Nadella in a statement.

Revenue from its Surface line of PCs and tablets grew 61 percent year over year, adjusted for currency changes, while phone revenue was down 46 percent on a similar basis.

Surface revenue shot up 56% to $1.1 billion.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) reported that enterprise adoption of its cloud-based Office 365 rose 57% in the March quarter.

Sunderland closes gap on Norwich in EPL relegation fightSunderland last beat Norwich in a Premier League meeting at the Stadium of Light in February 2012. Norwich began the game without defender Timm Klose, who has been a solid part of its defense.

In PBP category, Microsoft witnessed an increase of 1% in revenue reaching $6.5 billion but saw aa decline in operating profits which dropped 7%.

Further revenue growth was seen in dynamics products and cloud services which grew by 9% in constant currency year-over-year.

Those figures included a deferral of more than $1.5 billion in revenues related mostly to the July release of the new Windows 10 operating system, which represents a new model for how the company will distribute and update its flagship software.

Microsoft shares on Friday dropped 7.2%, their worst day in 15 months, as the software giant's third-quarter earnings missed estimates and faltering growth in cloud computing spooked investors. Microsoft accounted its search ad revenue growth to Windows 10 usage, noting that 35 percent of its search revenue in March was driven by Windows 10 devices.

Revenue in Microsoft's Intelligent Cloud segment, meanwhile, grew 3 per cent (u p 8 per cent in constant currency) to US$6.1 billion, with Microsoft stating Azure revenue grew 120 per cent in constant currency. "Companies from large established businesses to emerging start-ups are turning to our cloud solutions to help them move faster and generate new revenue".

Nintendo NX release date confirmed for March 2017

Nintendo will focus primarily on the new Zelda at E3, while the NX will be absent from the show. According to Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima, the reason for the holdout is to ensure that all games are completely ready for launch next March. "Additional information about Nintendo's E3 plans will be announced in the future", the company revealed.

The highly anticipated Nintendo NX is set to make its global debut in March 2017, Nintendo officially confirmed.

Recently, NeoGAF user "10k" shared some details about Wii U games that could also wind up on Nintendo's new console.

The company also said to release more smartphone games this year. Many fans of Nintendo and various media had speculated that Nintendo would release NX at some point in late 2016 before today's release date confirmation.

The interesting thing there is Nintendo specifically mentioning a brand new concept in their statement. This announcement came amidst a great deal of speculation and rumors that production of the Wii U would cease this year.

The new Zelda, meanwhile, will launch across both the Wii U and NX platforms, much as Twilight Princess did on the GameCube and first-gen Wii.

Nintendo also confirmed that the NX would not be shown during the video game industry's biggest event, the annual Electronic Gaming Expo in June. We won't get to see it at E3, which is a bit of a surprise, with all of the attention reserved for the upcoming new game in the Zelda series.

If the Wii U's successor is going to end Nintendo's decadelong console slump, the gaming giant still isn't giving any hints as to how.

SpaceX releases 360-degree video of rocket landing on barge

SpaceX just released a 360-degree barge-level video showing the historic landing of its Falcon 9 rocket on an ocean platform.

The company pulled off the feat of landing a 14-story-tall rocket ship on a barge floating in the Atlantic Ocean on April 8.

On Friday, SpaceX posted on YouTube a video of the landing that lets you look around in all directions -- and feel as if you were standing on the deck as the rocket touched down.

The video uses YouTube's new 360-degree view feature. On a desktop computer, you can use the mouse to click on the screen and move the image around. On a smartphone, you can move the device to explore your surroundings.

The grainy video also reveals how tricky it is to land at sea. With a camera on board SpaceX's autonomous spaceport drone ship (ASDS), you can feel how the ship sways back and forth. Plus, it's obvious that the rocket slides a few feet on deck after it cuts the engine.

SpaceX failed to land the rocket on three previous attempts, with the rocket collapsing and blowing up.

It's a neat use of the technology, bringing viewers to the front seat.

Now the question is: Will SpaceX allow a similar in-the-front-seat experience when a rocket heads for Mars in 2018?

Nintendo NX to Release on March 2017

Hot after the release of its first smartphone game, Miittomo, the legendary Japanese video game company has announced it will launch a brand new games console in March 2017.

With the confirmed announcement by Nintendo, it is now certain that the game will be launched soon and that too across both the platforms, NX and Wii U.

Nintendo of America tweeted about the new console, but offered no details on what the new concept for the console is. So the game will now be a launch title for the new console and will also get a simultaneous release on the Wii U in March 2017.

NintendoA still from the "Legend of Zelda" game for Wii U and NX.

News of the Nintendo NX's launch date no doubt came as the firm looked to play down the fact that its profits fell 61 per cent year over year.

Coming Soon reports that Nintendo's NX console will officially arrive on March 27, 2017. Both games will be released in autumn, and Nintendo says that the two games will have more prominent gameplay elements compared to Miitomo. The company announced today that the upcoming Zelda will be "the focus of Nintendo's presence at E3" and that nothing else will be playable on the show floor. Nintendo also revealed one of the first games appearing on the home video game console: The Legend of Zelda.

Nintendo NX release window was revealed yesterday during its annual financial results meeting. Instead, the company's long-delayed next installment in their storied "Legend of Zelda" series for Wii U will take center stage at the event as the only playable title.

Party ends for smartphones as global sales fall

Smartphone shipments worldwide flattened out in the first quarter with just 0.2pc growth year-on-year, the smallest growth on record. Its market share declined marginally to 23.6 percent from the 24 percent it held in the same period last year, while Apple's share was down to 15.3 percent from 17.7 percent a year earlier. Both lost ground to fast-growing Chinese smartphone makers including Huawei, Oppo and Vivo.

Apple's South Korean rival Samsung shipped 79 million smartphones worldwide in the first quarter, down 4 percent annually from 82.7 million units in the first quarter of 2015, Strategy Analytics said. The company recently released its flagship P9 smartphone and told CNBC in February that it will surpass Apple as the second-biggest smartphone player in the world in three years and leapfrog Samsung by 2021.

The company's new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge sold "vigorously" in the month of March, while its more affordable J-series phones did well in emerging markets, according to IDC.

The launch of the iPhone SE which has all the power of the 6S in a compact form factor could help but at $399 the SE features equally powerful competition from competitors in India and China. As Apple CEO Cook mentioned on the company's earnings call, the SE will begin having an impact on iPhone shipments in the second quarter of 2016.

So what does all of this mean for the smartphone market?

The drop in revenue for mainland China reached 11%. It blames the contracting market on "increased penetration maturity" in major markets such as China, along with general consumer caution about the future of the global economy.

The biggest reason why Lenovo and Xiaomi are getting hurt is because numbers suggest the average selling price of a smartphone in China has gone up from $207 in 2013 to $257 in 2015, indicating greater purchasing power and an appetite for more premium smartphones. Xiaomi remains under pressure from Oppo, Vivo and others across Asia, while it is still very weak in North America and Western Europe, Strategy Analytics said. "These new vendors would be well-advised not to rest on their laurels though, as this dynamic smartphone landscape has shown to even cult brands like Xiaomi that customer loyalty is hard to consistently maintain".

"As the market as a whole slows, smartphone vendors need to adjust to targeting the replacement market", Jupiter said in a statement.

On Wednesday, research firm IDC said that smartphone makers managed to eke out a tiny gain in Q1. This increase is due to the Huawei-made Nexus 6P- Google's flagship device. While Huawei is furthest along in terms of global recognition, selling equally impressive volumes outside of China remains a challenge for many of these brands, whether it is Xiaomi, Lenovo, OPPO, or Vivo.

Smartphone health: Apple releases software for medical apps

CUPERTINO, California >> Apple is edging its way a little further into health care with the release of new iPhone apps that patients can use to manage their own medical conditions — from diabetes to pregnancy and even depression.

While there are hundreds of health-related apps on the market, Apple wants to put its stamp on a new ecosystem of treatment programs. Rather than build the apps itself, the tech giant developed a set of software tools and templates, called "CareKit," that health-care groups and health-tech startups can use to create their own programs.

Apple says it wanted to help developers build easy-to-use apps for patients to record symptoms, get useful information, track their progress and even send reports to a doctor. Experts say the CareKit program could help bring standards to a relatively new and unruly industry, while giving Apple a toehold in the growing health-tech market.

CareKit apps hitting the Apple online store this week include One Drop for diabetics; Start for people taking anti-depression drugs; and two apps from health startup Glow, aimed at women who are pregnant or caring for newborns. Apple says larger organizations, including the University of Rochester and hospitals at the Texas Medical Center, are working on CareKit apps for people with Parkinson's disease and patients who've undergone heart or lung operations.

"These mobile tools can help people reach their health goals," said Thomas Goetz of Iodine, a startup that used CareKit in the latest version of its Start app. Along with providing information about side-effects to depression medications, the app asks patients to record their symptoms and answer standardized questions to track how they're doing. Start uses a CareKit feature that lets patients send reports to their doctors; eventually, Goetz said, doctors will be able to respond by adjusting their instructions for medication, diet or exercise.

Data stored on iPhones is encrypted, and Iodine's app provides cautions to make sure patients understand they're sending sensitive information to their doctors. Goetz said his company is also developing back-end software for medical offices that will comply with federal confidentiality rules.

But Goetz acknowledged that doctors and insurers "are still trying to make sense of the world of health care apps. They're trying to understand which ones are valid tools and which aren't necessarily useful."

Apple's software could help validate new apps, he said, by letting developers build on a standardized template from a well-known company whose products are used by large numbers of people.

Apple says it isn't making money directly from CareKit, which grew from tools the company previously developed for researchers to create apps that collect iPhone users' data for health studies. But Apple could benefit if the apps gain wide adoption, making the iPhone an even more useful tool for millions of people with medical conditions.

"Even if you can't point to a revenue stream today, being the hub of an ecosystem related to health care could have great value in the future," said analyst Jeff Cribbs, who studies health technology for the Gartner research firm.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has signaled he believes the iPhone and Apple smartwatch can play a bigger role in health care. But the industry is heavily regulated and Apple has not ventured into making specialized devices that would be subject to federal oversight. Instead, the company leaves it to the developers who use Apple's software to determine if an individual app meets any health regulations.

Strategy Analytics: Global Smartphone Shipments Decline 3 Percent in Q1 2016

Linda Sui, Director at Strategy Analytics, said, "Global smartphone shipments fell 3 percent annually from 345.0 million units in Q1 2015 to 334.6 million in Q1 2016. It is the first time ever since the modern smartphone market began in 1996 that global shipments have shrunk on an annualized basis. Smartphone growth is slowing due to increasing penetration maturity in major markets like China and consumer caution about the future of the world economy."

Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics, added, "Samsung shipped 79.0 million smartphones worldwide in Q1 2016, dipping 4 percent annually from 82.7 million units in Q1 2015. Samsung maintained first position with 24 percent share for the quarter, broadly around the same level as a year ago. Samsung's new Galaxy S7 flagship and its popular J series models are helping to hold steady its smartphone leadership. Apple fell 16 percent annually and shipped a disappointing 51.2 million smartphones worldwide in Q1 2016. Apple's global smartphone marketshare has softened from 18 percent to 15 percent in the past year. Apple is facing iPhone fatigue and pressure is mounting for Apple to innovate a new wow design beyond its standard rectangle formfactor."

Woody Oh, Director at Strategy Analytics, added, "Huawei maintained third position with 8 percent global smartphone marketshare in Q1 2016, up from 5 percent a year ago. Huawei grew 64 percent annually to ship an impressive 28.3 million smartphones worldwide in the quarter. Huawei is closing the gap on Apple, but Huawei itself is now being chased hard by ambitious rivals like OPPO and Vivo."

Linda Sui, Director at Strategy Analytics, added, "OPPO shipped 15.5 million smartphones and soared to fourth position with 5 percent global smartphone marketshare in Q1 2016. OPPO has been well known in the smartphone industry for several years, but it is finally breaking into the wider public consciousness with its popular range of 4G models like the R9 across Asia and elsewhere. Xiaomi maintained fifth place with 4 percent global smartphone marketshare in Q1 2016. Xiaomi remains under pressure from OPPO, Vivo and others across Asia, while it is still very weak in North America and Western Europe and the vendor will need to target these regions more aggressively if it wants to catch Huawei and others in the future."

Nintendo is bringing Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem to smartphones

Tweet Share Share on Facebook Tweet Share Pin Share

Nintendo announced today that it's bringing two of its best-loved franchises to smartphones: Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem. The company revealed the news during its yearly earnings call, also confirming that its next console — the mysterious NX — is headed for a March 2017 release.

Few details were given about the future smartphone titles, but the two games seem like a smart choice for Nintendo's developing mobile strategy. The company launched its first smartphone app Miitomo in March, but the title was decidedly niche — a free-to-download social network driven by Nintendo's cartoonish Mii avatars. Nevertheless, the game still racked up more than 10 million downloads, and as more traditional titles with established fanbases, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem could do even better.

More #Nintendo apps are coming to smart devices, including Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing! pic.twitter.com/ZLsHirPltM

— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) April 27, 2016

Fire Emblem is a tactical RPG, with players controlling a roster of fantasy characters and deploying them in miniature battles. Animal Crossing is less straightforward to explain, but is similar to the Sims franchise — if, that is, all the human characters were replaced by cute, anthropomorphic animals. As titles that users can pick up and play for short bursts of time, both seem well suited to smartphone gaming.

The two titles will be coming to smartphones some time this Autumn, reports The Wall Street Journal, but we'll have to wait to find out more about them. Nintendo confirmed that it's on track to release four new smartphone games by March next year, so we may hear about more upcoming titles sooner rather than later.

Ask LH: When Is The Best Time To Upgrade To A New Flagship Smartphone?

Dear Lifehacker, A lot of new "cutting-edge" smartphones have been featured on your website lately. I'm currently shopping for a new phone, but a lot of these products are just hitting the market now. Does it make sense to jump on them right away? When does it make sense to buy versus holding off? Thanks, Sceptical Shopper

    Dear Sceptical Shopper,

That's a good question — sometimes it's perfectly fine to jump on the newest version of something cool. Other times it makes sense to wait at least until the reviews are in before spending your hard-earned money. Assuming you're not an early adopter in all things, let's take a look at how you can know when it's safe to drop some cash on an upgrade as soon as it comes out, and when you should really hold off for a second — or maybe even a third — opinion.

Never Try To Be First In Line

We mentioned this when we talked about life on the bleeding edge of software updates and betas — in most cases, the bleeding edge just isn't as "bloody" as it used to be. Often new products are iterations on old, successful ones, and the risk is low. Even some of the most newsworthy product releases of the past year have largely been safe purchases — assuming you're already in the market for them.

However, one thing remains true: Even if you're eager to buy that new gadget, never try to be the first in line for it. In fact, try not to line up for it at all. It may seem fun to get your shiny new phone, game console, or smart watch on day one, especially when it seems like a safe bet. Still, even 24 hours can make a huge difference in first impressions and hands-on reviews. Pre-order if you want, and go ahead and opt for launch-day delivery even, but make sure you're reading real-world impressions from other people before you open yours. Those impressions can tell you whether there's a dud lurking in that box on your doorstep — or at least if there's anything you should look out for before you open it. In short, being one of the first is fine — just don't try to be the very first.

Do You Trust The Company Making The Product?

Before any upgrade, ask yourself if the company that makes the product has a track record of solid upgrades. Similarly, ask yourself if the company supports its products well, especially new ones. For example, if you're buying the latest update in a long line, you can be pretty sure it's a solid buy. Even slightly contentious products, like the iPhone SE, can be viewed this way. After all, the iPhone SE is just the newest in a line of successful phones and Apple offers support for its customers in retail stores, by phone, and online. Samsung's next Galaxy smartphone should be in the same boat — if you want one, there's no reason to shy away, unless Samsung's support leaves something to be desired.

There's a price delta here between headphones and smartphones obviously, and we'll get to that a little later. Also, all of those devices have their issues if you dig deep enough. There's probably a "scandal" for all of them that people would use to tell you to avoid them. Look past the sound and the fury and to the basics: Is this a product you really want? Is it well supported in case there's a defect or other issue? Does it come from a company with a good track record that you trust? Those are the big questions to answer, and if they're all yes, your investment is likely safe, even if the product is new.

Is There A Massive Enthusiast Culture Around The Product?

It helps to not be alone when you're on the bleeding edge. Consider whether or not there's a huge culture of fans and enthusiasts around the product or company that you're considering. If you find one, you'll have a place to turn if you have problems with your new device, and an opportunity to help other people struggling with theirs. Whether it's a pair of headphones, a new video card, or a new processor, if there's a massive community out there discussing it, you'll at least run into people who know how to fix the problems you run into, or will have ideas on how you can get them fixed. This is especially useful if you're buying something that doesn't offer "support" in the traditional sense, like computer components for example.

Of course, enthusiast culture can't get your money back if you feel like you bought a lemon, but they can help you turn your lemon into lemonade. Worst case, they can buy your lemon. Your lemon might be someone else's biggest desire. Keep that in mind when you're lining up for a new product — and keep an eye on eBay prices for that product on launch day while you're at it. If that brand new video card or game console doesn't live up to your expectations or won't work with your setup, think of how much you can get for it while supplies are still constrained.

Are You Spending Money You Can't Afford To Lose?

Buying top of the line or cutting edge products is always a gamble, and the logic with gambling is that you should never bet money you can't afford to lose. If you're planning an upgrade and just can't afford it to go wrong, hold off. As we mentioned earlier, even 24 hours after a product launch can make a world of difference. With smartphones, there will be first-hand reviews and benchmarks within hours of launch, sometimes before. With video cards, hype can dominate logic and get people pumped up for a new release — but even a few days makes the difference between PR and marketing and real-world benchmarks in real-world scenarios, performed by trusted reviewers. Sometimes it pays to wait.

Keep that price delta between "I'm OK if this isn't what I hoped it would be" and "I shouldn't have spent this much" in mind when you buy. With affordable upgrades, the dollar amount makes the whole affair less risky. With bigger budget upgrades like enthusiast video cards, smartphones or home electronics, you might want to step back a bit from day one purchases. Still, make that call based on your budget and how much you're comfortable spending.

There's nothing wrong with wanting those new, shiny upgrades as soon as they're available. Just don't put your money before your common sense and rational thinking. If everything lines up, you can have it all: A smart buying decision, a reliable product, well-spent money, and your shiny upgrade all at the same time. It just takes a little forethought, and being willing to be second or third in line for that upgrade instead of with the folks out front.

    Good luck, and happy hunting!

Can Skyworks Solutions Inc. Overcome the Smartphone Slowdown?

    Screen Shot

The last couple of months haven't been kind to investors in semiconductor manufacturer Skyworks Solutions (NASDAQ:SWKS). Despite a solid fiscal first-quarter earnings report in late January, the stock has been stuck in reverse for quite some time and has shed more than 8% of its value year to date.

    SWKS Chart

The downward slide has been caused by investors' concerns that a slowdown in smartphone sales would weigh on the company's near-term growth. That seems logical as Skyworks generates a sizable portion of its revenue and profits from the smartphone market.

So can Skyworks' business continue to thrive despite the slowdown? Investors should have an answer to that question when the company reports its fiscal second-quarter earnings results on April 28.

First, a reviewAlmost everything looked good when Skyworks reported its fiscal first-quarter 2016 earnings. Revenue jumped a strong 15% to $926 million and non-GAAP earnings per share leaped by 27% during the period. The stronger growth on the bottom line came mostly on the back of continued margin expansion as the company expanded its gross, operating and net margins during the period.

Skyworks also stated that it continued to make great progress during the quarter at expanding into new markets. It announced a number of design wins for its chips in a diverse set of growth markets such as security cameras, drones, and smart TVs. That's a double win for investors as it positions the company for continued fast growth and helps to diversify its business away from its dependence on smartphone sales.

Diversifying is especially important as the company is currently heavily dependent on Foxconn -- Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) contract manufacturer -- for a huge chunk of its revenue. Sales to Foxconn comprised more than 44% of Skyworks' total revenue last year, making it by far the company's largest customer. That dependence hasn't been a problem as iPhone sales have been booming, but this could be the first quarter when that asset suddenly becomes a liability.

What to expect this quarterAs a result of the iDevice maker's softness, Skywork CEO David Aldrich had warned that growth for this quarter will be slower than investors had been accustomed to seeing.

Here's a look at what he believes the company will be able to produce this quarter.

      Q2 2016 Q2 2015 Change % Revenue $775 million $762 million

    Non-GAAP EPS $1.24 $1.15  7.8%

    DATA SOURCE: SKYWORKS.

As you can see, sales growth of 1.7% would be3 a massive slowdown from the 15% that the company showed last quarter. On the bright side, management believes that margins will continue to remain elevated -- it is calling for gross margins in the range of 50.5% to 51%, a solid jump from the 46.7% that it reported in the same period a year ago.

Taking care of shareholders? In response to the company's slipping share price late last year, Skyworks authorized an additional $400 million share repurchase plan. With shares trading for such a modest multiple, you would have expected the company to get aggressive with its repurchase activity last quarter, but that didn't happen. When pressed on the conference call for more information about the lack of repurchase activity, management stated that it was looking into potential M&A deals and wanted to be conservative with capital. It did say that the company remains committed to returning 40% of free cash flow to shareholders.

That could hint that the company could have something to announce on that front relatively soon, so investors shouldn't be taken aback if a deal is revealed with the earnings release. With more than $1.2 billion in cash on the books and no debt, it certainly has enough financial flexibility to make one happen.

Rogers and Fido Will Carry the Huawei GR5

We always look forward to a new smartphone release in Canada, even if it is more of a midrange device regarding specifications.  Unfortunately, we will not see the new Huawei P9 finding its way to Canada, but we will eventually see the Huawei GR5, which features the same specs as the Honor 5X, thanks to Rogers and Fido.  The device, announced in January 2016 and released in February, has no firm date of arrival or pricing.

Huawei claims their new GR5 is for the "Fun-Seeker."  It is your typical Huawei device – which means a well-designed smartphone that gives you some bang for your buck.  Even with the GR5's mid-specs, you still get an all-metal aluminum/magnesium alloy body that looks the part of a more premium device.  The unique rear-mounted fingerprint sensor acts as a multifunctional interactive touch sensor.  With a single tap, you can unlock the phone, take a photo, or answer a phone call.  The Huawei GR5 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (FHD) IPS LCD display, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 401 pixels per inch (PPI).  The GR5's smart light sensor detects changes in light and its Apical Assertive Display automatically adjusts the dynamics.

The Huawei GR5 uses a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 MSM8939v2 octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 1.2GHz and four cores clocked at 1.5GHz and uses an Adreno 405 GPU.  It packs 2GB of DDR3 RAM and 16GB of internal memory that is expandable via a microSD card.  The primary camera is 13MP with autofocus, an aperture of f/2.0, and LED flash.  It uses digital image stabilization, digital zoom, HDR, scene mode, and many more features.  The front facing camera (FFC) is 5MP for shooting selfies and video chatting. The Huawei GR5 has the usual suspects – WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, and built-in FM radio.  A 3000mAh non-removable battery provides power.  It has speakers mounted at the bottom of the device.  It measures 151.3 x 76.3 x 8.15 mm and weighs in at 158 grams.   It comes in White, Gray, or Silver.

As more information comes in, we will keep you updated on availability and pricing of the Huawei GR5 as it makes its way to Rogers and Fido.  The GR5 is certainly not your typical mid-range – we hope that pricing will be kind.

Researchers develop magnifying smartphone screen app for visually impaired

Researchers from the Schepens Eye Research Institute of Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School have developed a smartphone application that projects a magnified smartphone screen to Google Glass, which users can navigate using head movements to view a corresponding portion of the magnified screen. They have shown that the technology can potentially benefit low-vision users, many of whom find the smartphone's built-in zoom feature to be difficult to use due to the loss of context. Their results are published online in the journal IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering.

Eye and Ear and an associate professor of ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. "This application transfers the image of smartphone screens to Google Glass and allows users to control the portion of the screen they see by moving their heads to scan, which gives them a very good sense of orientation."

People with low vision often have great difficulty reading and discerning fine details. Magnification is considered the most effective method of compensating for visual loss. iPhone Share of Smartphone Market Inches Upward

In the years following Google's release of the Android OS, iPhones lost market share of the smartphone audience as users turned to lower-priced handsets made by a variety of manufacturers. But the number of US smartphone users relying on iOS continues to rise each year—and they're gaining audience share as competitors like BlackBerry continue to underperform.

eMarketer estimates that this year, more than 90 million people in the US will use an iPhone on a monthly basis. That makes it the No. 2 smartphone OS in the country, after Android, but brings iOS to a 43.5% share of the market, slightly higher than it was a couple years ago.

In the UK, too, iOS has been clawing back share even as it remains behind Android. This year, 13.0 million smartphone users in the UK will have iPhones, or 31.8% of the total. That's up almost 2 points since 2014, and eMarketer expects it will reach 32.1% by 2018.

iPhone sales account for a significant portion of Apple's revenues, so gains in share—especially in more developing markets like China—could be key to the company's quarterly earnings, which will be reported later this week.

iPads, however, continue to lose share of the tablet market in the US. In 2015, they fell below half the market for the first time, and by 2020 44.0% of tablet users in the country will use an iPad.

Similarly, in the UK, the iPad audience will drop from 48.0% of the tablet audience this year to 44.2% in 2020.

Apple TVs are also in about 20 million US homes, eMarketer estimates. They're among the less popular choices for over-the-top video viewing, with 12.5% of connected TV users expected to have one this year, down from 13.5% in 2014. Still, the total number of users with an Apple TV is growing.

Motorola may launch two new smartphones in June

To add on to the speculations, Lenovo CEO, Yang Yuanqing, teased the probable launch of the new device.

According to rumours, there could be two variants of the fourth generation Moto G, one being the standard version and the other a Plus version. The Moto Maker feature/service has always been pushed as a key selling point for Motorola's smartphones, as it allows buyers to enjoy a very wide range of customization options, including, but definitely not limited to the phone's back plate color and materials.

Under Lenovo's leadership, Motorola Mobility announced Moto X in July 2015. Although there is no official word to ascertain which device will be unveiled, rumors say it could be the midrange Moto G 2016 (also known as Moto G4) and its bigger sibling Moto G4 Plus. When owners updated their device to Android 6.0 Marshmallow they said that the handset was a lot smoother.

First off, a home button is clearly seen on the leaked device and it is thought that it will contain a fingerprint scanner. "The leaked picture also shows a new camera setup which could be the use of better autofocus and new image sensor too". It can not be confirmed that the said phone is indeed a Moto E (2016), however, given that this device usually falls on the lower ends when it comes to Motorola's smartphone screen sizes, it leaves us with little to no choices but to stick with the Moto E.

When is the Moto G 2016's United Kingdom release date?

While not much is know about two Moto G series handsets, the Moto G (2016) is expected to feature a 5.5-inch display, 13MP camera, and 16GB internal storage.

It seems that the new Moto by Lenovo brand is already gearing up for a new project release, as supposed leaks of the 2016 Moto G start appearing online. As the render of the Moto G4 Plus is making the rounds, another smartphone from the company turned up on the Internet.

Prince's 'Purple Rain' to return to AMC TheatresIn Atlanta , while talking to the crowd between songs, he joked about having been "under the weather", giving a slight smile. She says she knew Prince had issues with his hip and knee from his years jumping off risers and speakers on stage in heels.

Motorola Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus: Specifications, features and release date rumors

Motorola is expected to launch Motorola Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus on June 9. At the recently held event in China, Yang Yuanqing, Lenovo's CEO revealed that Motorola will release a new device on June 9 but declined to reveal the model name, specifications, and features. He only said that the new devices will nothing less than exciting.

Even though Yang refused to reveal any details about the upcoming launch event on June 9, there are leaks and rumors about the Motorola Moto G4 and its big brother Moto G4 Plus. However, we only have information that none of the devices will launch until June.

With so many leaks floating on the web about the upcoming Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, we expect the next generation of the Moto G smartphones will be announced on June 9 since we don't have leaks about other devices at this moment of time.

The new video claimed to be that of Moto G4 Plus recently surfaced on a popular Chinese tech portal, which looks similar to that of the previous leaks. Interestingly, the fingerprint sensor is not visible on the newly leaked smartphone, although tech enthusiasts believe that the recent leak could be a prototype of the device released during early stages when the fingerprint sensor was not actually added.

    Motorola Moto-G4

While Motorola Moto G4 is expected to be equipped with a 5.5-inch display, 13MP camera and 16GB of expandable internal storage, the Moto G4 Plus will feature the same display and storage option as G4 expect the fact that the Plus variant is supposed to include a higher capacity main camera sensor, most probably a 16MP. Meanwhile, the Moto G4 Plus will also bear a minimum of 12MP front-facing shooter camera.

Going by the specs, we assume that Moto G4 Plus will pack special features oriented for photography lovers including fingerprint sensor integration on the front below the display with quick unlocking capabilities.

Lenovo, at the recently concluded CES, had announced a partnership with Google and showcased a mysterious new Project Tango project based device with an augmented reality interactive 3D scene scanner. We have to wait and watch whether this feature will be incorporated in the upcoming Moto G4.

Samsung releases pink versions of Galaxy S7

It is a reason for the Galaxy Note phones being incredibly successful.

They're all packed to the gills with the latest hardware available. It was noted that the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 were all launched with Exynos processor in 2015.

Meanwhile, Samsung's local rival LG Electronics is planning to introduce the G5 SE, a budget version of its flagship G5 smartphone, which is expected to target the Latin American market. The model number of Samsung Galaxy Note 5, which is getting the update is N920TUVV2DPD1. But I hope it pays more attention to the actual hardware, too.

It looks like the specs for the Samsung Galaxy C5 is leaked out due to Geekbench scores that were posted online. That might require additional power, so the S Pen could potentially charge when stowed inside the Galaxy Note 6. If you are exhausted of looking at the default lock screen on your S7, then you should consider installing Samsung's own Good Lock app from the Galaxy Apps store. Here's what we know. There are also rumors that Galaxy Note 6 will come equipped with USB Type-C ports to make the handset slimmer. Meanwhile the same devices on many other carriers, and outside of the US, have been up to date for months. They are a ideal tool to gauge the interest amongst consumers.

Apart from launching the high-end Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Samsung had launched quite a few mid-range smartphones. The device is thicker and lighter as it measures 150.9×72.6×7.7mm and weights 157 grams and it's resistant to water.

Samsung is a South Korean multinational company founded in 1938 and is one of the leading manufacturers of today's gadgets, not just smartphones, but also TVs, digital cameras, and audio systems. Maybe, if I wish extra, extra hard it'll come true.

Samsung has reportedly been developing the camera module for its point-and-shoot lineup, but in the past, it's used the modules from that lineup in selected smartphones, like the Galaxy K Zoom featured in the video above. If you want more, there is also tap on links that will take you to more advanced settings menus.
